Want to take the better half on a day trip somewhere, no idea what to do. Not that familiar with south waleS, what is there to do? We're both early 20s.

Done Oakwood, and done a zoo recently! Anything goes?

Alot of the things to do around here depend on good weather, and now that we're heading into winter....

Anyhow the National Botanic gardens are a good day out, or get yourself a pair of walking boots and an OS map and explore, Coastal path is good and your never too far away from it.

Penderyn distillery/whisky tour is indoors and there's Dan yr Ogof caves as well I guess.

Try White Water Rafting at Cardiff - http://www.ciww.com

Also the massive olympic pool is at Cardiff Bay, which is great fun.

Plenty of Mountain Bike trails around?

Ape Ape at Margam Park for some tree-top climbing.

Take a boat to Flat Holm Island.

Mumbles to Swansea along the coast is nice. You can try Surfing along the front.

Any beach in Gower if you like beaches or hiking.

Cardiff museum is great if pee'ing down (but might be a bit boring for 20 year olds?)

Big Pit for the coal mine experience, nearby steam train and nearby Iron Works in Blaenavon so 3 things to do in that small area.

Brecon Mountain Railway.

Cardiff Castle tours (not cheap but interesting)
Castell Coch just north of Cardiff
St Fagans Folk Museum.

Main venues for shows are the Millenium Centre, St Davids Hall and the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

Birds - Llanelli Wetlands or Slimbridge over Gloucester way.

Folly Farm has animals and a vintage indoor fairground and Anna Ryder Richardson's zoo is there or thereabouts.

Another vote for Folly Farm. I had great fun on the indoor fairground plus there is a raised platform at the giraffe enclosure so you get to see them up close. There is also an indoor area where they were feeding various farm animals.

At Cardiff Bay there is a boat trip that takes you up the river to Cardiff Castle where you can then go for a tour and jump back on the boat to the Bay afterwards. They also do fast boats/ribs in the Bay out to the Flatholm/Steepholm islands. Always looks like fun.

As said big pit is a good one and The Whistle Stop Inn just up the road does a good meal and pint. You can even catch a steam train to the inn from big pit if its a day its running, quite good fun! If you are more about action there are local karting and paintball venues, both are a great day out although paintball is like being stung by a thousand angry bees!!

Take her to a nice hotel
If you want to travel then try Portmeirion up North West.
Used as base for The Prisoner.
You can stay in hotel or rooms inside the village.
Not particularly cheap but definitely something different.
Also a good base to tour Snowdonia.

There are limits on the ages of kids who can go down though so check in advance.
