For the last few years a couple of mates from Bristol and I try to get away for weekend. They usually come over this way and we get up around Rhayader, although we have been down to Cornwall in previous years.

Anyway this year we are looking to go to west Wales, Pembrokeshire National Park way maybe. So, can anyone recommend a good hotel/B&B in that area? Also looking for a few nice roads.

What about somewhere like this.

I've never been there but it's been awarded the CAMRA pub of the year for the area and they have a self catering cottage.

Two minutes from me. Nice B&B and great location but for evening meal and beer you'd have to drive out as there's nothing within walking distance really.

Ah, no good then as alcohol tends to play an important part in the weekends itinerary. biggrin

Matt, what about the Black Lion Lampeter? Looks like they may have off road parking a few pubs around as well.

Reasonable accommodation that ticks all your boxes here: http://theforgelodge.co.uk/home.html which then leaves you the option of the A477 to Pembroke Dock and explore the tourist traps of the South West Around Tenby (personally I'd avoid it this time of year unless you like tourists).

Or the A40 to Haverfordwest and then the Coast Road to St Davids by way of Solva. Other than that there's loads of country roads, perhaps go through St Clears and head for a place called Synod Inn by way of Meidrim and Trelech which will take you over the hills and then up the Coast to Aberystwyth, come back cross country.

Unless you want to get here quickly (in which case use the M4) can I suggest that you try to join the A40 at Monmouth, by going through the forest of Dean on the A4136. If you catch it at the right time there loads of reasonable driving through the Sennybridge area, just don't get stuck behind a truck or a numpty.

Oh and if you're driving up here soon avoid the Builth Wells area between the 21st July and the 26th July as the Royal Welsh show is on and the traffic will be really bad.

A couple I can recommend in Pembrokeshire.

Harp Inn in Letterston which may be a tad pricey for what you are looking for.
Old School Hostel in Trefin

Thanks for the replies. We've booked a couple of nights in the Harp Inn 6/7 of September.

Roads is a difficult one. The best views are on the coast roads but you will not be able go fast on all of it as quite a bit of it is single track; the views are stunning though. If I was spending a day driving round Pembrokeshire this is what I would do.
