I can see there is a thread already up about this, but that is more Cardiff and further West, looking for a decent tyre garage who can do tracking as well.
And after my experience today, a certain chain of garages who perhaps offer tyres at a discounted rate are off my list completely, pulled up for tracking to find the garage empty and not a lot going on, great in and out I think, only to be confronted by one of their monkeys who informs me that
A. They can't track my car because the tyres are low on tread so it throws there machine off, yeah right crack on son I wasn't born yesterday I have had tracking done here before with tyres with less tread on.
B. Just from looking at my one tyre and running has hand lightly over the tyre informs me that it is illegal and I need new tyres.

Both tyres are fine, don't get me wrong they aren't new, but they have more than 1.6mm of tread on them, and considering you didn't even look at the tyre properly I fail to see how you made an informed decision, as I have checked those tyres with a depth gauge, and I can assure you boy, they are not illegal wink

So who can be trusted?

I live just outside of Chepstow and use Protyre in Bristol for tyres and basic alignment on the fleet, they are pretty good actually with a laser machine. For something more specialist (my MX5) I would go elsewhere (Powerstation in Tewkesbury or WIM where I work) to ensure its 100% perfect.

Can't help with Newport but i do agree with HR above with regards Pro Tyre in Bristol. Used them a few years ago now - supplied new alloys for me as well, did an excellent job and after they had been highly recommended too. thumbup

King David in Risca are usually pretty good, although Dave who used to be the manager there has left.

Discount Tyres are VERY competitive on price and have done a fine job the last 2 visits...

Abacus on Leeway Estate recently sorted a problem that nobody else could cure regarding alignment and balancing on the new RS4 rims we've just fitted to the Allroad.

Never had a problem with Discount Tyres in the past either. Cheapest around for rubber of all sizes and quality. Customer service has always been acceptable too.
