Gearbox repair specialist

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a gearbox specialist within the South Wales region who could give me some advice and perhaps fix the gearbox on my Mk4 Golf GT TDI 150.
I've just had the car back from a service at Euro Performance. I asked them to investigate the whine coming from the gearbox and they think that it's the main bearing. They have suggested that it might be repairable but if not then a replacement gearbox could be as much as £2k! I'm also wondering if it's possible to get a reconditioned or second had gearbox from somewhere?
They also said that it needs a new intercooler as it's cracked. I'm struggling with the idea of spending that much money on the car given that it's probably only worth ~£3k. I had the camshaft replaced last year after suffering with the infamous chocolate cams problem. I may be forced to sell it as a "going concern" and buy a cheap runaround.
Your advice and suggestions would be much appreciated.
