Mike you suggested fitting the main filter pre pump and an ausxillary post.
Can you give a reference regarding what type of smaller post filter to use and does it need monuting or can iit just be tightly jubilleed in line?
Careful, these pumps prefer to 'blow' rather than 'suck'. If it's pulling through a fuel filter, the extra pressure drop may make you more prone to cavitation which could be very bad news.
1st answer.
The post pump filter I used was an off the shelf number picked up from Halfords. I went through their complete stock to find one that had the largest inlet and outlet pipes.Physically it is 1/2 the size of the main filter but from my limited experience of fuel injected cars the only "dirt" it would collect would be the from the electric motor brushes (A second original filter could be used but size could play a part regarding siteing),any contaminants being stopped by the original filter now before the pump. Both filters are mounted beside the pump, just jubilleed in place, fixed with a tie wrap and all are wrapped in plastic to protect them from the elements.
2nd answer.
As you say the pump does not suck it pushs the fuel. The pump is gravity fed from the tank so providing fuel is allowed to flow through the filter and prime the pump before switching on then all should be ok. As to pressure loss I am only running a mildly tuned 3.5 with the fuel pressure set to 34PSI and do not suffer from a weak mixture at the top end. A bigger engined car may be a different can o worms. But at the end of the day 1 speck of crud in the pump and its goodnight pump hello Wedge Automotive!!
