Since having a new bracket fitted on the anti-roll bar to resolve the ‘clonk’ problem, the car has now developed an even more annoying continual squeak from the roll bar! What could be causing this? The bushes on the anti-roll bar had previously had grease on them; these were cleaned and refitted. Where the brackets were fitted, tape was wrapped around the roll bar to cushion the new tighter fitting bracket. The problem has only developed since this change. Is it likely to be the lack of grease on the nylon bushes or the tape wrapped around the roll bar causing this noise?

I just changed my nearside roll bar bracket as it went AWOL and after 10 miles it started to occasionally click.I retightened the fixing bolt, plus half turn and problem ceased. Not sure why the tape round the bar for the Bush to sit over. You might find this is the problem as the bush is moving over the plastic tape causing friction resulting in the noise.

Wedge did the work for me. The tape is around the roll bar where the brackets are fitted. My previous problem was caused by a faulty bracket (a whole other story!). The noise was dampened yesterday by wet weather!? - but I'm sure the problem will come back. I think I will have to take the anti-roll bar off and remove the tape. What impact would there be to grease the bushes?

Update : Still happening but not as much. Its on the list of things to look at!

I had a better look at this last night and its not the roll bar. When you push down on the car it squeaks a hell of a lot. I thought it might be a dry shock absorber on one side but it seems to be behind and below the shock absorber. Are there some grease points I have missed? What could be causing this noise? Also is there a central jack point for the front of the car? I'd like to jack both front wheels at the same time.

Sounds like it could be the inner lower wishbone bush, it's pretty easy to replace (Mk11 Granny again!) or just whip the long bolt out and add a load of copperslip.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............ why do you need tape around the a/r bar? When I did the 390, it was enough of a struggle to get back together without increasing the bar diameter!
I use silicone grease on the a/r bushes as it doesn't attack rubber (and I get it free from work!).

Yeah the whole tape thing seemed strange to me...but that is what the guys at wedge did in order to resolve a different problem.
