I would like to swap the steering wheel on my 280i (U.S version),and although I was told that there are adapters available to make the new wheel fit, the problem is which adapter to use(if any). Were all the imported 280i's made with the same steering column,if so from which car did they originate? Any other useful tips on switching to a nice shiny wood rimmed version(ah bliss!) would be appreciated.

It should be a fairly simple case of identifying which steering column you have - you could even phone the factory for this info if you can't identify the type from the indicator stalk design. Then when you buy your new wheel you specify to the supplier that you need a boss to fit that type of column. I've just done this on my 400se (Ford column) and it was really easy.
