Hi CJ. Please don’t take this the wrong way but some people ( ok … me ) find it irritating when all caps are used in a post. IT DENOTES SHOUTING !! OK so i'll irritate some people by saying this and in turn some people will be irritated by the people who are irritated ...... mmmm !

Sorry

DEAR CJMORGAN
THE ANSWER IS a pig. it is extremely difficult to get a spanner onto the bolt heads, but not impossible. WHEN REFITTING I USED allen bolts and bought a couple of allen keys which i had to cut to various lengths TO GET IN THE SPACES TO DO UP THE new bolts.

I did this job on mine .. got the gaskets from Wedge Automotive and it takes about 1 hour per side.

The worst bolts being those underneath and nearest the back.

At least 1 hour per side !

If you grind down the sides of a 9/16 open ended spanner this helps quite a bit to get in there, also if you use a high temperature silicone sealent (usually red in colour) you can stick the gaskets to the heads which helps enormously . The sealant does't burn off until 350°C and if your heads are getting this hot then you'll be in trouble in any case. As a final tip drill out the mounting holes on the manifolds a little and be prepared to use a large lever to 'jeff' the manifolds into place, as they tend to warp a bit over the years.
Finally don't use the paper type gaskets as they're crap go for the individual metal/ asbestos type.
