Has anyone/does anyone know off someone who has fitted extra or better speakers into a 350i. Only for use on the motorway you understand! I still love the exhaust noise, but it does need a bit off help drowning out the girlfriend's complaining about the comfort/noise/cold!
Cheers Gavinr

My 400 has 4 speaker (5 if you include the odd one!) but not sure if this was standard. Very good with the front/rear fade bit. Mind when a tunnel approaches its all off and down a gear

Where are the other two apart from behind the seats?

We only have two rears in ours and at speed you cannot hear them at all esp if the roof is down.

Yeah I kmow, that's the problem. It would be good to have the option to listen to the music. I was wondering if it's possible to put some speakers in the footwell or doors.

I love the noise of our 420- without the stereo;have no choice about the cold as the top down makes the noise even better (especially in tunnels!),as long as I'm wearing me woolly 'at, and everyone turning to look makes up for feeling all the potholes!!!

Unfortunatley she doesn't quite share your enthusiasm, but I think she secretly likes it. She says she prefers my old Omega.

Are they in pods or just in holes cut in the door card?

When we were looking at up grading our sounds in the 400SE we were told that it was possible to put tiny speakers (you know the ones with loads of ummf just by the feet and where the door opens as the carpet is easy to remove and the wires just go along the dash. But I agree just the noise of the car along is good enough. Buy your better half a lovely coat so she can keep warm. Hubby took me to work the other morning, wouldn't have minded but it was minus something and it wasn't until I was out the door that I realised the roof was off. But its sunny was the reply! when I complained

Not sure. There when I bought but 6" at least and recesed into the door. If memory serves me you will have to watch out for the window mech and the bike cable that stops its vertical movement. They are in the bottom toward the front as far as they will go. Can take piccies if you want?

I reckon Gav should leave the girlfriend at home and enjoy the admiring glances from the women on the street! The real music of course comes from the exhaust note no matter where you are driving!

If my wife should ever complain about my car she gets banned!!

My 350i had two new speakers (big) in the rear upright panel behind the seats with a pre-amp (I presume) bolted to the other side. I do not know what it sounded like though (I prefered the engine music).

Both my earlier 350i and current 400 have 2 speakers in the lower front part of the doors in addition to the rear 2. Can't recall it really making that much of a difference having the extra 2 - especially with the roof off - then again - might have not turned the stereo on with the V8 symphony coming from the exhaust

I can drown out my 400 and feel my jeans vibrate (ohh er) from the speaker next to my leg

have built a speaker shelf with 2x100w pioneer 3way speakers and a mounting for my cd changer(to save it getting flooded in the boot!)which fits into the recessed parcel shelf, has cut-outs for the struts and is covered in carpet to match the interior out of 2"x1" frame and 1/2"mdf top. The result is you can still hear it at 70+++ with roof down and does not involve ruining the interior.(PS Aiwa stereos come with a handy mute button for those all-important tunnels!!)
allan and a mean green 350i
