Anyone got Leven pedals???
Discussion
Owning my car less than a month and still being extremely keen to add new shiney bits to the 350i - I was wondering what were peoples thoughts on the Leven offered aluminium pedals? I bought Steve Heaths execellent Wedge book recently, where he says the pedal surfaces are too close together for safe driving when having such pedals fitted. Does anyone have them on their wedge?
Thanks, Dave.
Thanks, Dave.
I had some aluminium pedal covers on my old 280i, I got them from Demon Tweeks. They did look good (in the gloom of the footwell), but I did have a problem with them. The accelerator pedal extension was wider at the bottom and biased in its width towards the brake pedal, this is to aid with shoe contact for heel and toing. As the pedals are already pretty close on the wedges this sometimes caused problems with getting good contact on the brake pedal when you really need to, ie I thought my foot was on the brake pedal fully as I could feel the pedal underfoot but when pressed I was actually pressing on less than half the brake pedal and on to the wider part of the loud pedal. Once when my shoes were wet my foot slipped off the pedal and underneath them, this is when you find you cannot pull your foot back through the gap as the wide flange from the accelerator will not let you, PANIC !!!!

Dave;
Having big feet, I agree the existing pedals are too close together ( a Lotus Excell is even worse). I went for a set of oblong curved cast ali bolt-ons from Ripspeed (Halfords)at £14.99. They are long enough to cover all the existing pedal, most bolt-ons are too short, thus showing existing pedal when fitted. I filed a ledge top and bottom of the backs so the ledge fitted over the flat existing pedal and locked it from swivelling and used one bolt, avioding the welding on the back of the existing pedal. This is one problem, the existing bracket is well welded on, covering much of the back of the existing pedals, two bolts could be a problem. I set the clutch to the left on the existing i.e. half on the existing and half off to the left (the right hand edge being flush with the right hand edge of the existing clutch pedal under), the brake to the right on the existing and the loud pedal to the right on the existing. The loud bolt-on being wider at the bottom, I filed a flat groove the width of the existing, thus it sat in the groove when fitted and was locked on with the one bolt.
This gave more space between all three and the pedals feel much better to push as your hole foot can rest centrally on the pedal. They look good to. Granted the clutch is a little close to the tunnel carpet, but its a hole better feel.

don't have leven pedals but do have a set of sparco covers in aluminium (halfords£22.99) which don't have any clearance problems whilst wearing size 10 caterpillar boots and look the biz. they do require careful drilling of the original mount to fit however (and also watch you don't dril through your hand!!!!)
cheaper and arguably better looking than leven items altough I'm very happy with their handbrake handle and look forward to mike's promise of more shiney bits to come - something nice to look at when you're stuck in a traffic jam and can't hear the noise!)
