I pay £330 for an H reg 400SE in SW19, garaged and limited to 3000 miles, but I was born at the end of WW2. Do let us know how much you actually end up having to pay, as it is a subject dear to many owners minds. Good hunting!!!

OK Nick, but where located and how much agreed value. I think driver age, location, mileage limitation and agreed value are the four critical matters Insurance Co's look at. Can anybody else through further light on the subject. I know when I looked at a Griff a year newer than the 400SE, it was over £700 and most Co's wanted previous TVR driving experience. That's why I went for a 400, which I now realise is a better car, anyway the noise is better. But you do have to agree the Griff is beautiful, albeit the 400 is rarer. By the way Graham Robson's book lists 103No 390/420SE, 242No 400SE and 35No 450SE, built, but it doesn't register any 350SE.

My 450SE is £240.00 fully comp, agreed value on limited milage of 3K PA. I am in the North East. I think ins companies also work on the popularity of a car ie more Ford Escorts will be involved in accidents than wedges due to the fact that there are more of them !!

I think 25 350SE wedges were made as a limited run, each is numbered, all with the 3.9 engine in them.

Hi Pankers,

I'm in Sheffield and the agreed value is 9K. They did ask if I had owned a TVR before which I had not. They asked what car I was driving at the moment and I told the guy it was the wifes Metro at which point the phone went quiet and muffled for some reason !! He then asked if I had ever driven a high performance car ( oohh !! ). I had just sold my DAX Cobra which had a nice 5litre Ford lump turning out 300bhp. Took me more seriously then !!

Insurance due - done the usual ringing around all those advertising in the club mag plus other specialist classic insurers:

Quotes vary wildly from £287 upto £700 for fully comp 5000 miles for 400 SE (31/Oxfordshire - garaged/Thatcham - agreed value of £12K).

35 years old, 450 SEAC, 1500 miles, £208 pa. Putting the miles up to 3000 only adds another £40 ish I think. Thats with ClassicLine.

Hi EdB;
I don't go much on the club Insurers, they were the first who wouldn't even give me a quote because I didn't have previous TVR experience, actually I did but was years ago, but that didn't count. In my second TVR year I asked for a quote again and it was well over what I am paying. I think there is alot of bad feeling in the club about their Insurers. There are often many letters of critisism in Sprint. I think the club should look elswhere as the club Insurers adverts in Sprint make no mention of having to have previous TVR experience.
