Well I’ve been ringing round for a price on a new Starter Motor. Peninsula quoting me around £140 ish plus VAT plus 30 to fit if needed, spot on. However a dealer that shall remain nameless ( in Sheffield ) quoted £460 ish + VAT ! for Starter plus £40 fitting !!!!! How can they justify this ? Also I can have the starter off and back on in about 10 minutes.

One could be a recon, the other a new motor. One could be a plain SD1 which is dodgy on fitting, the other could be a hi-torque unit which is almost essential with the bigger engines etc etc etc etc etc..

Hi Steve. Would there be such a discrepancy in price even if it is a high torque unit ? Obviously I want the correct starter but I certainly don’t want to spend the best part of 500 smackers ! I believe the unit at Peninsula is new but I’ll give Tower View a call on Monday and have a word with Mark. Probably get one from him if it’s a reasonable price. I don't really want mine recon or a recon unit. It's let me down three times now and I just want rid.

Cheers

The hi-torque units are the best part of 3-400 pounds so most people do go for a recon. The starter really does need heatshileding to have any sort of long life though. Mark does this as a matter of course now I believe.

I had my starter recon'd at Tower View recently..

Mark wrapped the new one in heatshield, and I was rumbling again the next day.

Definately worth a call.
