What motors are used on 400 wing mirrors? Are they the same thru the wedge range? I had my old 350 one apart and it was a single motor with a solenoid to direct the drive. Mine does a diagonal on one side not up/down left/right. Nice to get it working again so before I strip it down, anyone been there before?

Hi Jeff,

Hold fire, one of my Wedge chums has informed me that he is putting together an article on just that subject for the Wedge site. Hopefully, complete with wiring diagrams and pics.

When its done, I will let you know. In the meantime, check the wiring inside the car first before taking the motors apart.

Mike

Ps. Are you going to Pembrey, or are you working??

I am aiming to get at the track for about 9.30(ish). I think the rest of the gang are turning up a bit later (but some are staying the night).

I can also only make it now on the Saturday (bummer!).

Mail me your telephone number at the usual address and if you fancy meeting up on the way, we can blast down convoy style.

Is there a convoy planned? Also whats the best route through/past Llanelli or onto to the Camarthen junction then to Pembrey. It could be a bit claggy around there.

Yes (as explained in the Wedge bible) basically made by a company called Britax which has long gone. The only source for spares is basically another Wedge. I have heard other owners replacing the original with Sierra mechanisms but the wiring is conventional and would need changing to fit on a Wedge.

I took mine off the 520 as the housing rip the frame into the door, smash the window and do an awful lot of damage if clipped hard (like 70 mph). Now use Fiat Panda mirrors at £5 a time.

I assume you replace the pod as well? If the motor is the same I will have a crack at it as I cured (for a short time) the old one. Ratchet detent slack and muck stopping the solenoid operating properly, proved on the work bench with a power supply)as it only worked a short while, needed a better tweek (spent ages on the bench trying it, damn) but the hassle of removing meant it was left and then sold the car. I did tell the new owner of the problem.

Thanks
Jeff

If the 400 wing mirrors are the same as late 350's then the internals for the mirror are from a Rover SDi. I had to replace both of the motors in mine as they were burnt out. The hardest bit is finding an Sdi in a scrapyard.

No the hardest thing is to find an SDi with its mirrors intact!

According to my "I Spy book of wing mirrors", there are 2 or 4 depending on part number interpretation different SDi mirrors. The early ones are no longer available and I suspect that they have the Britax mechanisms.
