hi,
can anyone tell me what the avearge engine compression should be when doing a test on a 3.5L

i was hoping someone would have a comment


well iv'e done the test and all cylinders are all around 152 to 160 psi

I have never checked mine, but the important thing is they are all within 10% of each other. Sounds like yours is fine.

Not got TVR specific figure but various info on the 3.5 Rover V8 in general seem to average out at 130psi. Quite poss that TVR raised compression a bit I guess, but don't quote me I'll deny it :-) Anyways, would say that 150psi sounds good to me as long as they're all similar.

Sorry tcpc, I meant to reply to this a couple of days ago!
I rebuilt my V8 (now 3948cc, i.e. a 400 engine) last spring, so I'm fairly sure everything is in good shape. I've done a couple of compression tests but the only figures I can find are (June 2002):

#1: 178 #2: 164

#3: 172 #4: 164

#5: 170 #6: 170

#7: 165 #8: 178

Any help?
I don't think the capacity difference would be relevant.
