I was go-karting at the weekend in the rain (as you do), and I amazed myself by holding some pretty serious powerslides almost like our lord Tiff Needell.

Now I have never had the opportunity to hold the wedge in the same sort of slides for the following reasons:-

1 its my pride and joy and I do not want to break it

2 the public road is not the ideal place to practice just in case it goes tits up

3 I would prefer to learn in a safe environment with nothing to hit.

I did try at Elvington airfield and was sliding really well until I backed off the power and effectively did a 70 MPH handbrake turn, though credit where credit is due I did reverse spin it through the other 180 degrees and carried on as though nothing had happened, (my underpants would tell you a different story).

So the drift of this is, what have been your powersliding experiences in a Wedge !!!! Good or badddd!!??

In my 400se I can only really hold a slide in the wet, and even then it's never been for more than 4 or 5 seconds tops then it usually grips again.
In the dry its only really a case of wagging the tail out of a junction/roundabout or when braking and changing down from high speed for a downhill corner.
I do find it more tail steerable than my old Chim which had varying degrees of understeer when pressing on (unless ya got truly stooopid with it!)
It's alot dependant on the tyres too. The Toyo Proxes I had on once were ultra grippy but when they let go it was all or nothing (you caught it or you exited stage left!) The Goodyear F1s I have on now lack the ultimate grip of the Toyos (but not by very much it must be said) but they do have great feel and a nice progressive handling balance.
Cheers

You trying to make a point there Jason?

I find that the 390 tries to kill me if I push it, especially on the crap tyres that it's wearing. Apart from my major spin at Croft (stamped on the brake as well as blipping the throttle for a funky downshift into that sweeping right-hander towards the last esses!) it's usually a case of trying to stop the tail wagging the dog. It has an entertaining habit of pushing the arse end out to the left if you spin the tyres from rest as well... almost took out a couple of bikers at the lights one day!

Pleasantly suprised with the 400 over the 350. Maybe its the tyres, didn't have SO3 on the 350. It 's very predictable (bound to catch me out one day) and in the dry. Still scared of doing it in the wet. Of coarse this is all made up ocifer and I didn't do it the other day all around that roundabout it was some one else.

My 350 Tasmin isn't the most progresive slider, as has allready been said it tends to be all or nothing. I run Yokohama (a359 possiblly, can't remeber which) and it has more than enough grip in the dry and will only spin up if I'm being an arse, but in the wet it can be quite hard to catch and I've had a few brown trouser moments. Most notably following Johno and Paul V back from Chatsworth earlier this year. Coming out off a roundabout in Nottingham they go flying out and up a slip-road closelly followed by me frantically fighting the wheel sideways in third!! Not intended! I quite like the idea off going to one off the Wetter The Better style courses, so if anyone has any sugestions please let me know.

Sorry my PC seems to be posessed !

I have on many occasions scared the Sh1t out of bikers waiting at the lights as the back end slowly slides towards them. Not so funny since im now a biker too, and some git in a 2.8 capri did it to me the other evening !.

With the standard 15" wheels, I find the TVR very eager to put the tail out. When i run my ex-tuscan 16"x9 's on the rear she is far more sure footed, but will still shake her ass if you dont respect her!

Pussy !!! get along to an industrial estate one rainy sunday morning, and put some practice in.

I find that as long as you respect the throttle, and remember that anything past 30degrees off centre is bound to end in facing the wrong way, you'll be ok.

Pussy, me, well OK after getting scared with a set of Yokohama that must have been on the shelf for years before I came along. And that was before the rebuild. So hands up there in the wet. Although I am finding the SO3 are great in the wet when applying the go juice in quantities in straight lines.

I went to a local garage in a place called Shipton Bellinger ( 20 miles from Mitcheldever )If anyone wants a telephone number, ill post it.
I had a price of £99 per wheel, but in the end, I opted for Marshal Power-Racers .. These were considdrably cheaper, and I like cheap things ! (they also do a 245x45x16 for my rear wheels)

On the subject of Industrial Estates......I decided it was time to get some new tyres as the ones I had on the 350 at the time were shot. On the way up to the garage to get the tyres changed I noticed a small industrial estate at the back of the garage (it was Sunday and it was raining!). I pulled in, made sure nobody was about and proceeded to donut burn off the remaining tread in spc-bloody-tacular fashion.

After about ten minutes of this and feeling pleased with myself I pulled into the garage about 5 miles an hour to find two coppers sitting on the fence overlooking the industrial estate, drinking coffee patiently waiting for me to finish......oops!

Be careful out there amoungst them English!!
