have just been to the garage for its mot, however it needs a couple track control bushes and a steering rack which is supposed to be a cortina nark 4 unit, is this true, and wheres best to get the bushes?

Yes it's a Cortina rack.
If you mean track rod ends then most motor factors can get them.
If you mean the compliance bushes at the end of the tie-rods, then you can still get them from Ford. You may as well change the large dished washers at the same time as they fall apart eventually. Note the order that the bushes come off; they're coloured to help you though it's less obvious with aged bushes. The colour signifies different compliance of the bushes. You may need a tracking alignment once the new bushes are fitted.

Wedge do a poly conversion for the compliance bushes. I would have thought it was worth the extra cost. Mine came as a kit with all the washers etc.

I have fitted a cortina mk4 qwik rack to my tasmin. It now turns in 2.5 turns lock to lock. There are several sources Quaife, Demon Tweeks, Peter Lloyd rallying.More like a sports car than a family saloon. It is no heavy to turn than a Chimaera.
