I have just refitted a pair of new front indicator/sidelight units to my 1988 350i. Having not read the advert properly, I bought a pair of RHS units. I had assumed that they were the same both sides but they are not and are in fact handed. So after a lot of messing around fitting them I discovered that the one on the nearside (passenger/left) doesn't fit flush, and the one on the offside (Driver/right) fits nicely with the bumper lines as can be seen in the photos.

Nearside

Offside

I rather like the fit of the offside as it follows the curve of the bumper but all the pictures I can find show the protruding fit of the nearside to be how it was when it was new. Indeed , that was how mine were before I took them off.

So in order to get two lights that fit the same I need an left one if I want the original fit. Of course I have two right hand ones so a left hand one would be needed. BUT... If the two I have already bought are indeed right hand then why does the right one not fit as before and the one fitted on the left fit as TVR intended?

It seems the dealer I used was selling the light as right hand because that is what his supplier had told him they were, but he has confirmed that the lights are nearside and so what I would consider on the left side (when sitting in the driving seat looking forward).

So all I need to do is find a right had (offside) one and I will be back to how TVR had designed it!!

Are they not from a Renault 12? Therefore you will be best served by French ebay. Not cheap as a result. The car was in production in France from 1969 to 1980 but continued in Romania until 2006 (Dacia 1300), Argentina until 1994 and Turkey until 2000 (Renault Toros). You might have some luck there, assuming they continued to use the same old Cibie indicator units or a pattern part.

These are the French options:

Or just leave what you have. Only an "anorak" would notice, and save the money you would otherwise spend on overpriced parts from a very rare now donor car in repairing your front bodywork damage which most people would notice and lets the car down far more.
