350i S2 indicator column stalk?
Discussion
Hi all,
I desperately need a new indicator, main beam, horn, column stalk switch but am struggling to find a replacement ?
There are some sd1 items about but they all, have a different shape 8 pin connector to mine?. See pic of my connector.
Does anyone have a spare they could let me have? Or does anyone know where I can get one?
Thanks in advance,
T

Hi
have you thought about making a patch lead from one plug to the other? These people have many sockets for old style cars/bikes.

I changed, mine a year or so ago and removed the pins and swapped them into the original TVR plug, so buying into a new plug would be simplest, but expensive as the old unit can be used. The old pins are barbed and there is a tube tool or a petite flat screw driver to bend the barbs in the out to re install them . IF it is Lucas TTS then the orange plate needs to be removed first.
(I have a OE spare unit unit too, so I did not need to mark up and double check things). A@

I have just looked at my spare and it is wired differently to yours (mine is a 86 280DH). When these are taken off and replaced back on the column, I have found that the clamp tag can shear (leaving it loose on the column), SO, I always add a few small washers to limit the clamping force. I simply scratched the colours into the plug.

even all those stalks have a different connectors than yours, i wold first talk to Rimmer´s as i cannot imagine that TVR used ther "own" plug

Hi,
Thanks. I've found one with the same connector as mine via auto electrical supplies but couldn't get anyone to answer the phone there end of last week.

I'll try them again as it did exist in my form.
Cheers

Cant get the one I found at Aes as above link as no one there answers the phone or responds so i presume, looking at recent reviews left for them by customers who bought items but didn't receive them, they may have gone out of business.
So am still struggling to find a replacement stalk at reasonable money.
Found a couple of my type via a London company but a Nos One is over £200 and a 20 year old used one is around £120. Appreciate there not cheap due to the rarity of them but they seem crazy costs for what they are or am I just being nieve?
Tried the obvious places for one ie Rimmers Ang, etc etc to no avail.
So anyone who knows of where I can possibly source this item from please let me know.
Cheers

Q. What was/is wrong with the current unit, these are quite robust.
Mine was only changed as part of a robust service regime, as I own a lot of TVR's and on the 280DH I rebuilt/refurbished all the headlamp system converting/updating everything to the latest the factory used. Period SD1's came with 2 different wiring plugs (as you say) I simply chose the right arm and swapped the unit onto the original back plate that incorporated the side switch (as the arm I bought 'I think' was from a different Leyland vehicle). Important for me was the RH/LH screw position of the main clamp, (it was common for TVR to use LHD units on RHD cars). A@

Have you looked at the thread 'This place is like heaven on earth' at the top of the general TVR gossip page. The first posting in the thread looks like what you want?
Mmmmm, must tidy that topic up in the near futureHave no connection with this company, have found plugs and sockets when visiting it in the past, have now delved deeper into it
Lots to be found here https://www.automotiveconnectors.com/all-products....
Many parts aren't easily found

Hi,
There are various stalks which may be butchered to make up the one I need but they are a nightmare once taken apart due to the many small components inside ie springs, plugs, ball bearings etc.
I dont need the connector itself as obviously I have that, in my case it's the internal white plastic section that has snapped and is the part that locks the stalk in the main beam on position.
Cheers
