Hello all, I am looking to buy a wedge which will be used daily. How easy and quick is it to take roof off? Is it easy to store the roof if boot has items in it? I hear that the Chimeara roof can be awkward to store in the boot, is it the same with a Wedge? Previously we have had a Boxster and enjoyed the easy electric roof, also owned an MR2 roadster and enjoyed the ease of manual fold down in 20 seconds and being able to fold up from the driver seat. If the Wedge roof is a faff and / or difficult to store, I just know it will put us off taking it off at any opportunity.

Hi, a Wedge is a great daily driver. I used my 450 SEAC as my daily during 18 months of lockdown. To remove roof you pull the two rear hood braces then rear section drops down and targa panel can be removed. It takes 15 seconds. The targa will fit in the boot vertically if there's nothing in it, or sit on the top of your boot contents horizontally. The latter keeps the main boot area clear for shopping etc. Many remove the space saver wheel also and carry a can of tyre weld to give more space. A Wedge must be one of the most underrated sports cars out there and they never fail to put a stupid grin on my face. Cheers

I have also on my 280i just dropped the targa behind the seats (saves a lot of time opening the boot and can be quick if/when you need to put it up) brings the time way down to take it down and put it up.

Hope this helps too.

The trouble with sticking it behind the seats is (over many years) you get wear spots on the roof corners. But it's OK once in a while.

I use mine daily and stick it in the boot, but without the roof bag, I just have a furry shag pile rug I put over it to stop it scuffing, it's in there in 15-20 seconds.

When parking up I only use the drivers side strut so I can get it back down quickly from the drivers side. Then if it turns out to be raining when I leave I'll secure the other strut.

I did come up with a flexible cover I could leave on at work during the day but it looked a bit crap and needs re-engineering. however it rolls up and can fit between the seats, then you can leave the targa panel in the boot.

Used to lay the roof flat on top of the spare in my last one, Was very close to the boot lid so wrapped it in a wooly balket and laid two pieces of rubber mat over the area that rubbed (the boot struts).
For the OP, the Wedge roof folds better than the Chimaera one as the window is flat not curved.

Very simple to stow the panel vertically in the boot or to lay it on top of your luggage....
I use a Hamiltons Classics hood cover if it's a rainy day.....

Used them for years. Very effective...

Just buy the original and don't stress about the roof.

I never worked out how to put it behind the seats when I had mine, there just didnt seem to be enough space. I had mine in the boot with the spare wheel removed (as it didn't fit with the full size spare). As mentioned it is prudent to wrap it and protect the corners when in the boot.

Hi, my father bought a very early Tasmin coupe straight from the factory, somewhere around 1980. The one with the odd profile, all bonnet and no rear. Red. It was very under developed and the factory took it back several times to update. I recall the engine being a bit small for the car, not a wild drive. I had a 3000M at the time, was way more leery (is that a word?). I preferred the 3000M. Tasmin didn’t drift as well, broke away quite quickly, unless the tyres were worn out!

But, back on subject. Currently in a Griff. The Surrey roof, folding down, is a total revelation. I would never go back to the old solid section. Mine is in the loft! It is weirdly quiet when up, expected more wind noise, but actually can’t distinguish one from the other. Is there one for a Wedge? Best mod, really recommended.

I added a section of 'L' shaped aluminum stock across the rear lip of the trunk to support the rear edge of the targa. Keeps the targa from sliding around in the trunk. Grady
