Oil pressure guage help
Discussion
Replaced oil sender unit which reads 10ohms static, increases with engine running and increased revs to around 100ohms +, but nothing showing at the gauge.
Removed the gauge attached to battery on the inner wing, ran a lead from the sender direct to the gauge still nothing - do I assume the gauge is broken?
If so will any standard VDO, 52mm, 5 Bar be a suitable replacement or does it also have a specific resistance rating?
e.g. I know the fuel gauge is specifically 10-180 ohms

Happy to be shot down, I had problems with the trip meter on my speedo, had that fixed and the oil pressure gauge decided it wouldn't work.
Tried it on and off the bench, even bought a new gauge (which apparently wasn't working either). VDO gauge.
It seems they need a positive feed, an earth AND the lead to the sender MUST to be connected. So if you've tested the sender, it must be a break in that wire to the sender or the feed or earth on the gauge itself. Mustn't it? Live is green IIRC.

Thanks for the reply
However if I've taken out the gauge from the dash, mounted on the inner wing, connected a live and earth to battery an a 'new' wire from gauge directley to the sender (which is brand new) and have no needle movement when the engine is running surely it means the gauge is caput ?

Yes but was the ground of the battery also taken to the engine block?
As posted above it needs a full circuit to work.
Once other point is that if you've installed a new sender, and you might have used some PTFE tape in the threads, sometimes if there's too much tape this doesn't allow the sender body to ground. So check the continuity of sender body to the engine block.
