Big wedge light bits...
Discussion
Does anybody know if headlight assemblies for 400SE's can still be obtained from anywhere?
By "Headlight Assembly" I mean the metal bits which surround the light itself (containing the beam position adjusters) which are attached directly to the pod.
Mine (suprise, suprise!) are quite rusty

Anyone thought of replacing the standard single lamp unit with a twin like the 355 / 512 ?
I did think about mounting some of the new Xenon type lights into a revised plate/pod.
Dunno if the wiring's up to it tho!

Yes, but as Andy mentioned earlier. 400SE lights are square and not round.
Also upon closer inspection they also seem to have been slightly modified by TVR.
Are you sure about the Austin Allegro connection Steve?
As I recall, Allegro headlights were much larger than the small ones on the wedge.
Although now you've now got me trying to visualise all the cars, vans, tractors etc. I can think of with Square lights!

Aye, that makes two of us, Danny!!

The Allegro was initially fitted with a square steering wheel. Well, more like a square with the corners rounded off... pants idea anyway.

Going back a few years I replaced the adjuster mechanism on the headlights on my old 400 using bits from a local garage out in darkest Lincolnshire swampland. The packet had a "Metro" part number on it -this could be a clue as early Metros used a small rectangular light unit - possibly common with the Allegro unit??
If they are sourced from another vehicle, I think TVR slightly modified them for use on the 400 SE and large models. Mine are not the same (mirror images) on my car, and look as if maybe a 'shadetree shopboy' cut them out! I had paint flaking off of mine as well, but metal was rock solid. Put them on the belt sander to even them out, resprayed them black as before, and they look good as new. Preserves the original equipment, and costs just a few p and a little time.

I could probably do the same with mine.
My only problem is that a couple of the little nylon bits that the adjusters screw up and down in and the little nylon cups that the ball joint at the bottom locates in are broken/missing.
If I could just get these I'd be laughing.
But I think they'll be nigh-on impossible to source.
