Hi all

Hopefully someone can help me. I'm trying to breath life back into a 350i 1986, its not moved or started since 2011so needs some work, I've had a few wedges before so know a bit about how things work but this one has had a lot of electrical modifications by previous owners which is not helping.

But my first question I'm hoping is an easy one: The fuel pump has a yellow wire connected 12+, at the pump end it is split into 2 yellow wires, one connects to the pump and the other has a black bullet connector, where does the latter connect to? There is also a purple wire dangling down from up between the fuel tank, what is this for (I'm guessing fuel gauge sender, maybe?)

Mine is up on stands at the moment so I'll crawl under later and take a few shots of the wiring. Cheers.

Hi Mark

I'm still busy rebuilding my Tuscan but occasionally pick up the odd TVR that needs to be rescued, I had another dark blue 350i just before Christmas but is now with a new owner. I picked this 350i up last weekend, its not run since 2011, had an engine rebuild before being parked up, paint is shoot but interior is pretty good and chassis fairly solid just needs a rub down and paint. My plan is to get her up and running/rolling, then sell her on as a good project for someone else to finish, they make good starter classics for people to get into as they are pretty simple to work on but also still look great and sound awesome. Its had some odd things done to it, there's a switch in the centre dash console to turn the ignition on/off and the dash panels have been bolted through from the outside (guessing their hands were to big to get to the back of the dash lol).

If anyone has exhaust manifolds available would be interested as mine blow into rusty bits on first start up.

How's you, do you still meet up at the sausage meet?

Hi, I checked the wiring on mine. The fuel tank sender has a green/ grey wire feeding it plus a black wire connected to the local spade connection as the earth. Fuel pump has yellow to live and black to earth. Obviously this doesn't help your wiring issue though. That said, I don't think TVR made two Wedges the same.....

According to the wiring diagram fuel sender should be green/black, and the rest as Keith says.

A spare yellow sounds a bit odd. The purple could be for the hoop lamp? Is there one fitted and does it work?

The other connector near the pump could have been wired in for fuel pump circuit testing or by-passing the car wiring when a fault raised it's ugly head and stopped the pump running

The second yellow spur wire looks factory fit, its spurred off a female 90 degree spade that goes on the fuel pump. The plastic bullet connector on the other end is identical to the connector on the black/white wire that goes from ignition module and under air meter by passenger wing. At the moment the fuel pump runs so not a real big problem and will probably solve its self when I find something not working later on down the line. Unfortunately the wire on the other side of the connect had come off and there was not enough wire left to identify a colour.......even after picking it apart and destroying it lol.

I will try and get pic on weekend, thanks for the feed back so far guys

Maybe they were thinking of going dual pump? Seems like you have a very rare car ;^)

so here's a few pics, one shows yellow wire and other pic is what was the original connection on end of extra yellow spur (I have attached new spade for now). There is a purple wire (not in pic) that comes down from top of chassis and the other end I have put a new connector on and earthed it out on pump bracket but not connected yet as not sure its correct. I'm pretty sure there should be an earthing strap on the pump & filter brackets which is what I think the black wire is but same as purple wire I have not connected other end yet. I'm sure its probably quite simple but got something around the wrong way somewhere. Fuel pump does run though as tested by flapper.

Think I need to try and trace where the purple wire goes and see if it is a 12v power supply to something, which might be easier now I have some new hydraulic ramps :-)

Hi Al. So are you still in Maidstone? I stopped for a chat years ago, when you had the 400SE. Think you've moved from there though? Regards, Rick.

Edited to add that I am still in Maidstone and now have a 87 350i, if you want any help in identifying anything...
