Allo Allo - Does anyone know where to get a Steering Wheel Hub kit for a 1986 350i with manual (rover SD1) steering rack. Have tried all the obvious places (demon tweeks etc...).

My original wheel is knackered, got a nice new s racing wheel, but it won't fit as the 6 screw layout is slightly different. Got a Rover hub kit with the wheel, but this is too big and anyone i have phoned about it just doesn't have one or know where to get one.... Help me obwedgekenobie, your my only hope!

I have a wooden Astrali wheel fitted to my car. The boss a bit bigger than the original TVR wheel. If send me the dimensions I can compare it. However I don't what car it was originally for as I picked it up in a boot sale for a couple of quid and was going to hang it on the garage wall. I checked if it would fit the TVR out of curiosty and.....

Can't help much with your probem. I had similar probs with an Astrali wheel that Halfords were knocking out at bargain prices. The supposed correct boss didn't fit (it was to fit onto a Pontiac Firebird column) and eventually Astrali custom made a boss using my old wheel as a pattern.
Anyway, I have just bought an '84 350i, to which a previous owner has fitted a Momo steering wheel and gear knob. Though they are a lovely piece of carpentry, the wheel has already been glued back together and the gear knob is so high that you have to lift your hand about 9" to reach the top of it. Where can I get and original wheel and gearchange knob?

OK, so I found out a bit more on this..

You can't get a Boss/Hub kit for most of the modern steering wheels anymore (momo, sracing etc..) if you've got a Rover SD1 steering rack. But you can get a boss kit from Rimmer Bros with "classic" mountney steering wheels.

The classic wheels have a larger diameter screw pattern. I Got a hub kit from tower view (constant source of stuff you can't get) and a temporary mountney steering wheel from Halfords to fit it for £19.99.

I'm now going to get an adaptor made up out of ally or steel (hopefully bu the company that did my ally dash board panels) , to fit over the larger screw patterned mountney boss with a the smaller screw pattern for momo and other wheels set-up inside it. I think this will work fine, I'll post it up here if it does as it will be a cheap solution.

My 390 came with a Momo leather wheel as fitted by the previous owner. It has a flat 'bottom' to the rim 'cos the guy evidently had a propensity for Melton Mowbray's finest...
Anyway, it has a 6-screw fitment to a hub that I know he had to source separately as I have the invoice somewhere. The centre has been replaced by a TVR horn push, I presume from the original wheel. It doesn't fit properly as such, the hole is too big, but Evostik is a wondrous thing....
