Under pressure...
Discussion
My first week of wedge ownership is gradually getting to be fun, but I'm still paranoid about every squeek and rattle.
Today I am mostly worrying about oil pressure. It seems a little on the low side, despite having been serviced last week. At idle it is usually at 1 (or is that ten?), but it seems to fluctuate, and at times dips below slightly. When driving in traffic in London it raises to 2-2.5 but never seems to go much beyond that.
So my question is, what do you do about low oil pressure (I know stopping is a good idea if it gets too low). What makes oil pressure go up or down? Should I still be worrying about the aparrently low oil pressure I'm getting?
Thanks

Didn't anyone tell you, after Tvr built a Wedge they threw in a few Gremlins at no extra cost. I would be more worried if I took mine out and there were no suspect noises and nothing broke! Its all part of the fun........The only thing you need when owning a Wedge is a sense of humour, enjoy your car.
You'll have a nervous breakdown if you are going to worry about every squeek and rattle in a wedge!
As you have low oil pressure I presume its a V8. They run at lower oil pressure than most engines and apparently it's not a problem. 30 - 35 at 3,000 revs when hot is what the book says.
Assuming your gauge is accurate (might be worth getting it checked), you can fit an upgraded spring on the oil pressure relief valve for a couple of quid, or for a few more you can fit a mod which allows you to adjust the pressure to whatever you want within reason.
Either option is cheap piece of mind!

Hi David and welcome to the joys of Wedge ownership ! Danny's hit the nail on the head really about been paranoid. I was the same for the first six months or so that I had my 400. The oil gauge can do all kind of wierd things. It can go up, it can go down, it can dance around, it can drop to zero so you do an emergancy stop then flick up again with a ner, ner, n, ner, ner ...... Make sure all your earths are spotless ! cause' if their not you will have some grief !
