I am having a problem with hot start and running ect. Many have told me to try and change the temp sender to the ecu.I rang a dealer and explained the situation the dealer said that they had one in stock.Received it this morning and noticed the only make on it was "8TT" THE OLD ONE WAS "3TT"I rang the dealer before fitting and assured me that it would be fine.
Ok went out and fitted it the started up like a bucking bronko and would not restart again battery now flat.
Is this the fault of the sensor ie wrong one or do i have to delve deeper.
But before i fitted it it did start cold but just hot problems.

My 390 won't start if the temp sensor is disconnected. However, if it's hanging off the end of the wire in free space it does start, so it's not actually important for it to be in the coolant. So it could be that you have a broken wire to the sensor, and you've exacerbated it by changing the sensor.
I fitted a new sensor, although my old one appeared sound. They did appear different, insofar as the old one was brass and the new one plastic, but Range Rover assured me it was the right one for that era of engine. Can't say I've noticed any difference in any way since I changed it.
Bear in mind that technically, the 390SEs are modded 3.5L units, and the 3.95 as used by Rangey came along later, with factory ECU changes and so on, so you really need to specify 3.5L spares, as that's what TVR Power/NCK/uncle Tom Cobleigh had to work with..... ;-)

It might be worth disconnecting the cold start injector on the side of the plenum. There may be a fault on this or the thermotime switch which is flooding the engine.
It shouldn't make any difference to cold starting in this warm weather..... Hang on it's p****g down and cold out, but I thought it was August!

My car has had the cold start injector removed. As this is only fired by the thermotime switch, and the e switch does sod-all else, I guess I could bin the switch as well!
So yes, in theory, as long as you have a rich enough mixture and the ECU sees 'some' input from the temp sensor, it should start.
