You want how much for insurance!
Discussion
Hi all,
My quest to become a TVR owner struggles on, and I got my first insurance quote today. For a 1987 350i (valued at £5000) I was quoted at just over £800!
I had hoped the 350i might have made it into the classic car list, but aparrently not. I know living in south east London doesn't help, but I have maximum no claims, a fully clean license, and I'm 37 years old. Surely that must count for something.
How much are you guys paying for insurance, espescially the London people? Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but £800 seemed a lot.

Chimaera 4.0 ... street parking in NW3 ... 10k miles pa ... comprehensive ... 6yrs ncb protected (with protected prang 2yrs ago)... 3pts for bugger all ... 31 years old ... nearly twice as much as your quote ... and I spent a lot of time shopping around.
All the specialists and all the majors I could find were quoting £2000 ... Tesco's undercut them by a large margin, but it is still painfully expensive.
Good luck with your search.

I have got my 450 insured with classicline, their address is in TVR sprint magazine. They were the cheapest last year. If you use your car on unlimited milage then £800 is not too bad. My 450 is on 3k miles a year and because it it 11 years old goes on a modern classic policy. I live in North East England.
£240.00 fully comp !! Mind you, watch this space as the policy is up for re-newal in early July, so there will be a letter coming my way.

Broadside is correct. I'm with Classicline and they got my 350i (86/D) insurance down from its original £ 700.00 to £ 270.00. Its capped at 4,000 miles but I think thats O.K as I don't really exceed this.

That sounds more like it. I only do 5000 miles per year at the best of times.
Thanks DF
Mines through Firebond, second car, limited mileage TVRCC member, no modifications, SE England, fully comp as a modern classic for about half of your quote with 0 no claims (can't use it twice). You wil probably find most places will insist you have at least a cat2 imombiliser as I think it is a group 20.

Just insured my '90 450SE, and thought that I was going to have a coronary over the cost. Intitial quote was about 50 Pounds/month. Unfortunately, in Germany, where the car now resides, ALL TVR's are on the 'ineligible' or 'restricted' list and the cost ballooned. I'm 33 years old accident and ticket free for 7+ years. I've had performance cars in the past, particularly 5.0 Mustangs and I'm paying equivalent to 1100 Pounds per year with unlimited mileage and agreed value at 12,000 Pounds. I hate paying that much, but for a TVR, it's worth the cost. U.K. seems to be more amicable to the TVR, and I would personally shop around. Hell, it's worth joining the TVRCC just to take advantage of the A.A. Manning insurance scheme. I'm sure you could get it for 400/year or less!
Good Luck

Got a quote from Sunninghill of £380 for a 390SE, u/l mileage, garaged - admittedly in Scotland but the guy said that the theft risk was very low anyway with TVRs as they're hard to resell and not so attractive to joy riders bein gless recognised.
They also offered an introductory full NCD - so you could have two cars insured with full NCD.

Well, what can i say... Seems like old Sweden is THE country for good football players, guys like Svennis and TVR´s. Here i pay 90£ a year fully insured with no alarm/immobiliser for my 350i![]()
BTW, see you in the finals, old England !!!![]()

You might get cheap insurance but you have to buy your beer from special Government shops and its Bl**dy freezing!
Are you able to use the car for more than 1 month a year with the snow an' all?
PS Hope we win 5 0.
Cheers

Well, don´t listen to the stories about ice Bears on the streets !
Since we´re in the European Community, we by all the beer we need, cheap, in Denmark. We had 27 celcius in beginning of may, hardly ANY rain, gets below zero in late november in south of Sweden, and actually it´s ok if old England beats us in the Final; We win either way...
Only thing thats really bad: How to buy and keep a Tamora or worse, a Tuscan, without living within resonable range of Blackpool ?
Seems like a "Rover" 5L Griffith is the only alternative outside UK ?

ClassicLine do seem to be competitive. My 1985 350i with 3000 limited mileage cost £197 in February. I'm 40 and the car is standard and not alarmed. The policy seems good as it's Fully Comp with £100 excess and includes windscreen cover, breakdown and accident recovery, legal advice and salvage rights. Also earns NCB despite being a classic policy.

Bengt,
I went to Sweeden a few years ago in September, flew in to Stockholm South (which is a bit like calling Manchester London North). I went to a place in the middle to North and I can honestly say I never realised what cold was until then.
You have some v.nice empty roads for testing the car in Sweeden!
I just saw the highlights of the Sweeden Argentina match, that was some goal! You have us worried!

£418 fully comp protected inc Track day etc with Sunninghill on a 420SEAC with engine mods. 3k miles per year in North Bristol.
A note of caution, cheapest is not always best! I was insured through Classicline when Independant went bust and they were absolutely awful, no response to letters or phonecalls, general incompetence in handling the whole affair, promises not met and I never did get my proof of no claims from them. I would have absolutely no faith in them at all if thay had to deal with a claim and would not use them again.
IMHO its worth paying a bit more to get a broker you can rely on!

£280 fully comp.
They were helpful and sympathetic over the accident.
