Clutch on my '86 280i expired with no notice. No fluid in the reservoir or around/under the master so I'm assuming that means its the slave. (I think I replaced it a couple of years ago!) Anyway we are bit short of TVR part guys over here so can anyone give me a part number or car that I can cross-reference? I'm going to replace and not rebuild. Thanks Grady
Hi Mate..Not sure if the later hydraulic clutches were ford?..The master cylinder was apparently TVR specific..If they are the same as the 350s then there are some on fleabay..

Given the symptoms I would pop off the slave first and see if the fluid is in the bell housing, you should see some indication of wetness in the area. Take a picture of the slave and let us see it.
If its dry then I would then have a look at the master. On my 350 I started to have some problems with the fluid going black a sure sign of seals going, and changed both the slave and master, it's a straight forward job.
Good luck
Chris

Grady,
Clutch slave crosses over to a TR7. I got mine from Advanceautoparts for around $45 and they had it the next day. The clutch master cylinder is also from the Tr7. That is a little more expensive. If yours is original my guess is it isn't too far benhind. I got mine from here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MASTER-CYLINDER-Triumph-TR...
It works just fine although the resevoir is a little more verticle. You just can't overfill it.
Slave is a PITA to replace. Axcess is tight and if I remember right you need just the right length of extensions.

Hi,
Mine dumped out the fluid just before Christmas. It was the Master Cylinder, soaked the carpet underlay. I was told that the slave cylinder was replaced a little before I got the car.
It was a bit awkward to get to, the clevis pin was stuck fast so I un-screwed the rod. Due to the unusual size of the pipe fitting, It being special. The bore looked good so I purchased a refurb kit. No problems thus far.
My repair kit came from here:

Not sure on international shipping though.

Just to finish this and at the risk of over communicating
Turns out it is a TR7 part (1980 and maybe other years)
What I took off: Girling: 746600xx (23??) (2003?)
What I ordered from BAP/Geon: BECK/ARNLEY 072-4583 (B/A)
What I received: Centric: 138.30003 "Premium Clutch Slave Cyl" made in Italy 138 360405
What I paid: $60 plus tax
Looks identical and works great but a PITA to install without dropping the exhaust. Grady
