Haughins of Barrow in Furness
Discussion
Just finished writing a pice for Sprint about the Haughins SX and it got me wondering...
In the '80s Haughins were ( amazingly enough) secoond only to Arkley in terms of sales - so how many people here have a Haughins car?
They nearly all came with EO registration plates ( my first was E 696 DEO)and if you picked up a car on 1 Aug 1987 - so did I!

I am born and bred (for my sins) in Barrow.
In 1987 I was 12 and went to the all boys school opposite Haughins.
It was a sad thing that happened and sad to see the dealership close after only a few years.
Seeing and more so hearing those wedges was intoxicating. My best mate at that time started as an apprentice mechanic there at 16 and came round to mine one day in a 390se and took me for a little spin. That was the day that i was hooked and knew i would have one soe day. I bought a 400se about 14 years later and now have my Chim.

I once interviewed a rival dealer who wasn't very complimentary about Haughins and their attempts to market their supercharged Wedges over above what the factory had been producing at the time. It was linked to favouritism by the late Peter Wheeler and the two rival dealerships...
Read my forthcoming piece in SprintDon't have a Haughins car but do have many fond memories of them.
I'm also a Barrow boy, lived on Holker Street so Haughins was at the bottom of my road. The sound of the big Wedges that rumbled in and out of there are the reason I love TVR's so much. I swear I could tell if it was 350/390/400 etc just by ear
I had the Fast Lane/Performance Car pics of the SX on my bedroom wall and the sense of pride I used to feel because they had been 'built' just down the road was immense
Sad what happened

Assuming you hadn't changed anything, that must have been an early full-on Series 2 then. Mine was registered 7th September and has the earlier pattern wheels with different sills and front airdam to yours.
Yes, it was an S2 delivered October '87 IIRC. It was advertised on here a year or two ago and still looked good.Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
