jamie, the rounds around Bala are very good, you could start with the triangle, then head over to Bala, do a quick circuit, then over to Portmeirion for lunch at the Castell, very nice.

Hi - I organise the North Wales Meet for the Honda S2000 Owners and still have the details of the last 2 meets (2004 & 2005). Last year was 160 miles in the day and a lot of it a good run. This could be combined with other roads.

I am soon trying to sort out this years run scheduled for Sept. When are you doing yours and how many miles do you want to take in? Mail me if you want a chat.

At Bala take the A4212 and then there is a right turn a few miles in that heads over to Ffestiniog - well worth a run that, fantastic piece of road.

Start at Sainsbury Chester. (just off A55 - A41 whitchurch junction)

Leave car park and turn left

Striaght over rd and turn estate

Turn left at T junction head for B5130 - Alford

Through Alford,Churton and head for A534 (don't go through farndon)

At A534 turn right, go for a mile and take B5130 on left, head for cross lanes

At cross lanes turn left A525

Mile or so take a right onto B5426

At A528 turn left and then take A539 - this takes you A483 (don't join this)

Head for Llangollen A539

Go through Llangollen (don't turn over the bridge) and head for the Horseshoe pass. There's a pub on the climb to the Horse shoe, just after the farm shop. I usually wait here to let slow cars go for a few minutes, before hitting the pass. It takes 4 mins a Cerbera to the top.

Anyway, up the horse and down the otherside you hit a roundabout turn left onto the A5104.

Just outside Corwen, you can stop for at Gwyddelwern, the pubs called the Ty Mawr www.geograph.org.uk/photo/32027

To visit pub turn right at the A494 (here's a turning that easier opposite the industial estate (lefthand side) the outide Corwen - don't go into Corwen there some really bad road works) and go 3 miles into Gwyddelwern - pub in village centre. Just tell landlord John and karen in Blue cerbera sent you

After pub head back down A494 heading towards Bala.

You can get fuel in Bala in petrol stations that belong to 1950.

Go through bala and past lake and head for Dolgellau and the A470.

Ok there are two options available to you. You can return bala via the mountian route which is a fast open road. Or you can head for Machynlleth and then Oswestry. I'd try the return to bala route first.

Bala return.

At the A470 turn right and head for Transfynydd. Before Transfynydd turn right onto A4212 which takes you to bala.

Oswestry Route

At the A470 turn left and head for Machynlleth (A487). At Machynlleth take A489 ( left by big clock tower) which become the A470 (North) and then take the A458. Before Llanfair turn left onto the A495. At the A483 turn left for Oswestry. At Oswestry take your route home.

Please just get a map out beforehand to check and right and left directions.

Cheers

John

If your looking for a really testing twistee section, this is your place

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&

Near the Horseshoe Pass

Also on the day you plan to drive check the www.arrivealive.org.uk website as it shows where the mobile scameras are for the day. Although they sometimes don't publish them all :-/

I included that road today after seeing it mentioned here…..you’re not wrong…..very twisty!! I did Horseshoe Pass, Nant y Garth Pass (A525), A543, triangle(twice), B4501, A4212 then back on myself to A494, A5. I even got treated to a low pass by a jet whilst I was eating my sandwich next to Llyn Brenig! Absolutely awesome Don’t ask me what it was but looked like a fighter type thing....from RAF Valley I assume. It was a nice day for it
