Anyone know why 50mph?
Discussion
Anyone know why the road that heads from the A55 down to Deeside via Queensferry etc is a 50mph limit? 2 lanes on either side, with proper NSL centre barriers...you either get people who religiously do 40mph in the outside lane or people who do 80+ in either lanes. Seems silly not being an NSL route. I live 1 min from this road so I use it 3-4 times per day... annoying being stuck behind a Thorncliffe dumper truck in the outside lane going up the hill past Asda etc...

Entry slips are short, no hard shoulder, bendy.
It's only a few miles or so, so its no hardship. The biggest issue is at peak times heading west, just before the start of the 50 zone, where effectively 4 lanes become 2 with a reduction in speed limit.
Yup, around 4.30PM I have noticed. Best trick is to drive past Sealand RAF base down the side of those 4 lanes and merge in right at the very last part (near Garden City) and then get in the outside lane ASAP, I have found. It's only a few miles or so, so its no hardship. Shame there are no bridges connecting Sealand with Wales as it would make life a lot easier.
On a side note have you noticed an absolutely horrid smell whilst crossing the Queensferry bridges? Any ideas what it is? Some days it is not there, others it is terrible, it smells like rotting paper.

Going North East towards Deeside Ind Est - Exhaust emissionsGoing South West from Deeside Ind - Emissions, but also the merging into 2 lanes from 3 + traffic entering onto the A494 from Sealand Road causes safety issues. It really is a crap piece of road design that was supposed to be very temporary. They were supposed to 3 lane it up Aston Hill but the proposal was rejected after locals objected to it.
There's also structural issues with the Bridge over the Dee River. Last time I heard, the torque reaction created by traffic moving across the deck was of concern as the bridge deck bearings had failed - Hence the intial 50mph restriction beyond Aston Hill, over the bridge.

Huh?Sealand is in Wales...
Do you mean Sealand Industrial Estate? - Part of which (Chester Football Stadium) is also in Wales.
There was discussion of building a bridge over to Saltney ferry but it's not that simple.

There's a sewage farm by the river and there's a recycled waste sorting plant on Sandycroft Ind Est that sorts Cardboard. It's most likely the Sewage plant you can smell.Edited by Zombie on Friday 5th April 01:13
