What's that place called?

Hi All,

A few years back, would've been around spring/summer 2008, i took my wife and then only child to North Wales for a day out. Was a great day and keen to get back this summer, particularly only living an hour and a half or so away.

However, just want to know the name of a place that we stumbled on.

Really wish i knew what it was called so hoping you local folks can help.

This is going to be a very vague description!

All i can describe it as is:

- Coastal
- Decent, well looked-after playground for the kids with a small shop selling ice cream etc
- Next to a fairly big hill
- Stood at the playground, the hill was in front and the sea was on the LEFT of me.
- Was a fairly quiet spot considering so close to tourist traps of Llandudno etc.
- Close of Llandudno because that's where we were going and i seem to recall my sat nav cocked up my normal route to North Wales and we ended up there - if anything i think we over-jumped Llandudno but were only 10 mins or so drive away to the promenade area.
- Would it be Rhos on Sea? Seems to ring a bell but looking at a map, don't believe it was.
- Looking at a map - believe it may well be on the West side of Llandudno - perhaps somewhere between there and Deganwy?

Any help appreciated! Plan is to get back there some time very soon, let the children (now 3 of them) have a ride on their scooters on the front, play on the playground, and an ice cream; before braving the masses at Llandudno promenade!!

Think i've answered my own question!

Must be that 'quieter' side of Llandudno. 'West shore beach' apparently.

Hill must've been Gt Orme.

Found the playground too on google streetview - looks a lot less impressive than it felt on that day!!

Still, looks a nice spot for a 'scoot'!

Any other quieter coastal places in North Wales worth a visit with some younger children??

There's plenty of places along that coast and all over Anglesey.

You can go from West Shore to Deganwy, stunning views, hardly anyone there! There's a lovely walk along the front in Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr is stunning when the tides out and is usually deserted.

Around Anglesey, choose from Rhosneigr, Maltraeth (walk to the beach, but what a spot!), Newborough (can get very busy in the summer), Church Bay (ditto), Treardur Bay (ditto again) Bryn Refail or the wonderful beach at Llandonna.

This is by no means a definitive list, there's simply too many wonderful coastal spots. How about a trip to South Stack on Holy Island, RSPB centre at Llandudno/Glan Conwy, a walk up Parys Mountain near Almlwch.

Don't forget to go up the Orme, great road around it, go up on the tram, down on the cable car.

If you take a trip on the 9th of June, park up and watch the cars come in along Llandudno promenade as the 3 castles rally comes to an end. You can't go on the Orme road, as the rally uses it, but it's always that weekend. It's one of the highlights of my motoring year!

Whenever you go, wherever you go, enjoy.

As above get yourself over to Anglesey, I should know I've lived here all my life.

Just to correct one of the points above, Malltraeth beach, there isn't really a beach there, the beach you are talking about where it's a 10min walk to the beach is the next village, Aberffraw.

To be honest all the beaches from Newborough right up to Trearddur Bay along that coast are breathtaking as you can see all of snowdonia in the background. This is not far from Rhosneigir only a couple of weeks ago, can just make out the mountains in the background...

Come over in October for the Cambrian rally - last round of the BTRDA national rally series. Uses that same car park for a couple of hours in the day as a short service to change tyres from gravel to tarmac or vice versa. Depending on whether the Marine Drive Great Orme stage is first or last.

Many nice quite places in N Wales in Anglesy and Lleyn at least as good as these but busy in Summer

I always get it confused (only been here 11 years, still finding new spots, I absolutely love it here). Apologies to all Aberffrawnians.
