... just this minute been emailed these dramatic photos.

They are of a floating accommodation unit which sank this morning in the Gulf of Mexico.

I can't find anything out about it on the web.

I understand that everyone was evacuated before it went down.

Cheers,

Eric smile

Scary stuff. Looks like the gangway is still attached as well! Glad everyone got off before it went under though.

At first glance I thought that was one of the "Safe" fleet. "Supporter" no longer seems to be in the fleet, sold renamed "Jupiter" perhaps?

I only wonder as "Safe Supporter" was the first barge I worked on albeit very briefly!

I'm going to have a guess and say that it got hit by a PSV with a wonky DP system. I can't think of any other obvious ways to sink a flotel.

Yes that's the one. I will beleive it when I see it but we are supposed to be getting a complete new accomodation a integrated drilling package. Alot of work is still to be completed before we are ready for that.

Any inside tips appreciated if you do make it to the Auk smile

I believe she was the old Safe Astoria before Prosafe sold her to Cotemar where she became the Jupiter. One of the older lads that i work with has told me that the Poly Confidence was sold to Diamond Drilling some years ago.
