Need to be in work tonight at 5.30 ish.

I have just been informed that a metal bar fell off the roof of the Clyde Tunnel today causing chaos and mayhem on the M8, Kingston bridge resembles the M25 apparently.

My usual route from N.Ayrshire to Cambuslang is A737, M8, M73, M74, off at Carmyle, left, down to roundabout, turn Right into Cambuslang Investment Park.

So I need another route. The Best way I can think of is over the Fenwick Moor on the A77 into East Kilbride, then from there I haven't a clue. I suppose from East Kilbride I could get to the M74 and go in that way, but it seems too much hassle, and too much sideways travel.

So, I need the best and Quickest way from East Kilbride to Cambuslang.

TIA
Stuart.

That's the best route to use - N. Ayrshire to East Kilbride via Eaglesham (B764).

I'm not sure of road numbers, but bear with me - I've travelled this route many a time...

Once thro' Eaglesham, the road goes straight into E. Kilbride. The first roundabout you come to (which has a big silver sign saying 'Peel Park' just on the other side) take a left (no road number marked on the map).

Follow this road right down, thro' a small r'about and you'll come to a major r'about where there are roadworks for the new link road to the M77 (this is the A726). Go straight over this r'about - the new tax office (Centre 1) and the Hilton hotel flank the exit so you can't go wrong (again, this road has no number on my map).

Straight over all the other mini r'abouts - you'll pass a the Museum of Agriculture on your left, then a Safeway on your right, then a loch on your left, keep going to the end of this road, straight lining all the r'abouts.

You'll eventually come to another major r'about at Kingsgate shopping centre. You want to take the 2nd exit off that r'about. This takes you onto the East Kilbride expressway (A749) and you're only about 2 miles from Cambuslang.

Stay on this road until you see the sign for the filter lane to your right that takes you onto the B759 and down into Cambuslang town centre. Best advice is to keep to the right all the way down the dual carriageway until you pull off for the filter lane.

Follow the road down past Kirkhill Golf Club on your right, to a mini r'about. Take the first exit off this and follow the road right down into Cambuslang itself. It stops at a 't' junction with traffic lights. If you go right, then left at the next set of lights it'll take you down towards the M74.

If you go left, you'll go along the main street.

I'll have a look at my road map to put numbers to these roads for you.

Steve.

edited to say Eaglesham instead of Fenwick!

Cheers Steve,

I'm starting to think a quick detour around the kingston bridge maybe a little easier

Not knowing EK that well, or the M77 for that matter.

OK - good luck!

BTW - where are you travelling from? Perhaps going thro' Paisley on the A726 right into East Kilbride might be a better route?

Steve.

I'd rather go straight into cambuslang

Erm, West Kilbride (Ironic eh?) is my abode. Usually go to Dalry, pickup the A737 and jump on the M8 at the Airport. I'm tempted to come off the M8 at Tradeston, nip over the birdge at Gorbals cross and pickup the M8 again at Charing Cross.

ah ha ha - I meant into EK then Cambuslang!

What about thro' Stewarton? then M77, Eaglesham, EK, Cambuslang. Dead easy!

It can seem daunting if you haven't done the route before. Why not try it in reverse when you finish to get an idea of the time difference compared to your normal route?

Steve.

Crossed wires and such , don't u just love it.

Well as you can see I'm back.

I had intended to go up the A77, into EK etc, but got to the A77 at Kilmarnock, saw the traffic on it, and the traffic trying to get on it. 2 words, That and FK. So I followed the 71 to the M74 and went into cambuslang that way.

Spent the last 12 hours driving a Bin Lorry round Glasgow City Centre. I have many many many rants as a result which I need to get off my chest, but first. i must Sleep.

Good Night, or is that Good Morning
