Model shops in Aberdeen
Discussion
Is there any model shops left in Aberdeen? (Near enough to the city centre)
ToyBazaar on schoolhill has been closed for a while. And I know of one near portlethen and Inverurie, but that's out of reach today.
Is Bobs Models on Cotton Street still there? I'm gonna be heading down that way later.
Thanks, Andy.

Got two small 1:76 scale models from HobbyCraft.
After asking my mum, she said the guy who owned Bob's models on Cotton Street died a few years ago
I've been to one of the shops in Inverurie, the one that is part of the newsagent, upstairs.
And there is the model zone iirc, but haven't been to that one, that I can remember.

The one in Inverurie is pretty good, definitely worth a look. Don't know of any in Aberdeen anymore though ToyBazaar on schoolhill has been closed for a while. And I know of one near portlethen and Inverurie, but that's out of reach today.

The one you want to go to in Inverurie is across the road from the Farmfood/Coop bit. It sounds like you were in Strachans before... which is probably more of a toy shop rather than a model shop... Models Unlimited is a very good shop, thats the one across from farmfoods/coop and round the corner from the green grocers. If its car models your after, I was up at afford transport museum on monday, had a few nice models there for sale.

Bit of a thread resurrection, but just found out today that there is a Model Zone opened up in Aberdeen in the past week or two. Bon Accord Centre, upstairs, across from GAME.
Support local industry Andy...not the big companies...My Brother-in-law has opened a model shop in Banff stocking Hornby, Airfix, Scalextric and more...
If your needing something give us a shout and I'll have a look in the shop as I'm working from here today!!

And I try to! But I also know someone in Model Zone
The high street model shop is a dying concept.
The catchment just doesn't exist to support a thriving LMS. It's virtually impossible for a shop to stock everything the modern modeller, armed with endless choice and information from the internet, might want whilst being at a price that doesn't drive that modeller to just order it online and wait a few days.
There are model businesses in the local area. Models Unlimited in Inverurie persist as a high-street shop and somehow resist distance selling. Hobbycraft carries a very limited stock at very high prices. I run a specialist cottage industry for modelling but only do distance selling because I have a real job during the day time (and the market doesn't support the costs of a premises and staff costs) and Grampian Model Supplies in Peterhead sells kits online only.
