The old XJR is needing some light paintwork; tiny bubbles smaller than five pence piece on front wings and inside of arches starting to look orange.

Problem is despite living here 5 years I've not found a decent paint shop that doesn't ask for silly money or isn't run by complete aholes. Despite the car being 11 years old they seem to think a Jag needs a premium!

Can anybody help?

Another one for Steve Walker, he did a great job on my 10 year old Impreza and a decent bloke to boot!

I think that might be a little far to travel for an estimate.

He also looks a little expensive from the website. I'm after a cash in hand job ideally.

It's only a tiny bit of work so I doubt it could be massively fudged up by even the most cack-handed of painters.

Thanks anyway though. I may have to resort to the journey if I can't find anyone local!

I've had a very reasonable quote from Seafield Coachworks for a front end respray. I can't comment on the quality of work, but they do work for most of the main dealers down there, so I'd imagine they're pretty high quality.

I have to say, IMHO, that with the above, a proper job will not be as trivial as you think, this is moisture under the paint which could only get there(given its an older car) from the inside of the wings, which means the wings are now rusting. You could get them blown over but the bubbles will be back in 6 months.

Just my tuppence worth.

I know what you're saying and I do agree with you for the most part. But I have some experience of getting cars painted in the past and I have been getting laughable quotes. At the moment £1200+VAT for touching up some rust? I've had front ends resprayed for £300 and whole sides of cars replaced for £900. Both quality jobs.

It very much looks just like surface rust from stonechips or the like. If it fails again I'll just buy new wings for £150 a set but I'm not paying more than a couple of hundred for someone to pull off a wing and touch it up.
