I could reel out shed loads of tales of people thinking they can 'pop up' to the north west Highlands.
"I'm in a bar in Glasgow, do you fancy meeting up for a pint?"
Was beaten by
"Our delivery driver leaves from Colchester first thing, so I doubt he'll be with you until after lunch"
And today we had
"We are sending a chap out to pick up your lease car on Monday, he'll be using train and bus to get to you"
There are two trains a day to the 'local' station - he'll arrive on the 20.57, and then have a 19 mile walk!

That's quality.
You'd be amazed how many people i meet down here who reckon that Scotland is spread out less than 100 miles apart.
And that's people in the NE of here!
Funny you mention that, I was invited to an interview with a roads maintenance firm based in Durham. I declined it as had just been offered a post, but they asked me to go along anyway. You'd be amazed how many people i meet down here who reckon that Scotland is spread out less than 100 miles apart.

"We're just over the border you know!"
Yes, but I'm 6hrs drive north of that...

But what a lovely walk, in the dark though...."I'm in a bar in Glasgow, do you fancy meeting up for a pint?"

Why not go to the station and pick the poor chap up?Yes, I am being facetious.
Cheers,
Eric
Next up... the car has fk all fuel in it... and all the garages will be closed. Shall I spend my money so he doesn't run out?

Yes, of course, it's the right thing to do. Not the poor chap's fault that he's working to instructions issued by a bunch of gibbons.Alternatively you could just set him on his way in the knowledge that he'll get stuck in the middle of nowhere and be faced with an almighty nightmare.
What's it going to cost to get him to a filling station safely? £15 maybe? It's not like we're short of a bob.
What goes around; comes around. Give a little.
Cheers,
Eric
Give us a break!
Scenario a. They delivered it on a low loader, they pick it up on a low loader.
Scenario b. They send some poor sod on a hike to try and train/bus/hitch his way to the most remote part of Britain. I am expected to either let him do that, or drive my car 19 miles (12p per mile to the lease company), with my wife driving my OTHER car on a 38 mile round trip... and I have to fuel up the car that no longer belongs to me. I either have to do that and wait for the train to arrive (!) or I have to leave the keys somewhere (which would certainly invalidate the insurance). This whole excercise will be when my wife and I are both supposed to be working.
Which scenario would you prefer? I will OBVIOUSLY do all I can to help the chap... my beef is with the lease company. The money goes to THEM, not HIM.

On a similar vein Anyone had problems with Route finders giving weird journey times
I find Viamichelin is way to fast ie Glasgow - Dingwall 3h 16m! The AA 4h 20m
And Google MapsI find Viamichelin is way to fast ie Glasgow - Dingwall 3h 16m! The AA 4h 20m
Driving directions to Dingwall, UK
181 mi – about 3 hours 37 mins.
As for no idea of distance, my father was once asked by the head office to travel to Shetland, when he pointed out the fact it would take some time, they replied that it shouldn't as it was just off the coast of Aberdeen.

3.16 is about right. 4.20 if you tow a caravan. (This is, of course if 'Glasgow' means the edge of Glasgow not the middle in rush hour).I find Viamichelin is way to fast ie Glasgow - Dingwall 3h 16m! The AA 4h 20m
I get from here to Glasgow in 4.15 on a good day, and I'm 54 miles further on than Dingwall. It's all down to what time of day or night you travel

Saying that I was considering popping across to Applecross for lunch at the weekend. If the weather had been nice."I'm in a bar in Glasgow, do you fancy meeting up for a pint?"
Still might head over on Saturday.
There's a subtle difference in what you can do it in and the time it should take with plod out in force on 60mph A9
If you try a few journeys from bishopbriggs the site seems to suggest a 60mph average up the A9!
I remember once a long time ago doing Moffat to Silverstone one Sunday morning in a tad under 3 hours with a refueling stop
Those were the days!
