Clay Pigeon Shooting Around Edinburgh
Discussion
A few people I know shoot with West Linton Sporting Clays, another small club, at Silverburn. Shoots every other Sunday. Email me through my profile and I'll pass on contact details.
Alternatively, the Scottish Clay Target Association should have a list of clubs and venues around Edinburgh.

Hi There, I shoot with the Howgate club (Small and very friendly) at 9 Mile Burns most Sundays from March onwards. I just heard that there is a new clay ground at Livingston thats supposed to be good, although I dont know where in that maze!
What make of O/U did you get?

Bought a Browning 425 (1995) grade 1 multi-choke from Dickson MacNaughton - and got a reasonably good deal on it. The guys are pretty good - though their prices for 7.62mm rifle ammo nearly made my nose bleed!
They mentioned the new ground at Livi too, but willing to try anywhere! I won't manage to get out for a couple or 3 weeks now, but once back I'll be well up for it.

That looks pretty good too Simon, I see they do lessons which I would quite like to use to get rid of some of my bad habits..... Owned guns for years and years, but this is my 1st DB!! I'll give them a call and see what deals they do, and what you get for the cash!ninja-lewis said:

Bloody hell, I thought the sport was dying on it's feet! I'm gonna have to try and get round all of these places and try them out. That's the Sundays sorted for this summer - now, just the cost of ammo!Alternatively, the Scottish Clay Target Association should have a list of clubs and venues around Edinburgh.
I'll drop you a line when I get back to the UK!

Dickson McNaughton are not renouned for their economics! for 7.62 and all my rifle stuff I usually go to North Ayrshire Shooting Ground although I see from Gun Mart magazine there us a gun shop in Kirkaldy that does a lot of rifle stuff. What 7.62 ammo were you after? I load my own and use 7.62x54 in my Moissan Nagant.

it is legal to shoot nissan micras with shotguns, although as they travel so slowly it may not be regarded as sport? I beleive therer still may be quite a few of them around Edinburgh and it may prove a cheaper and more enjoyable alternative to shooting happless and much more stylish, well designed and more usefull clay discs?

Try cluny clays in fife. Ive been a couple of times and the service is top notch and its only half an hour from edinburgh.
P.s Dont go at the weekend unless you like stag do's . The weekdays are empty
Or you could buy or rent a clay pigeon trap and some clays and talk nicely to a farmer with something like a decent size quarry on his land.
PPs. The shooting season is over for this year so there should be a good few farmeers up for a bit of (practice) on their land .

Any of you guys shoot/would like to shoot around Edinburgh? Looking for venues and others interested as I've just bought an O/U and need to destroy some little clay disks.
If anyone is interested venues normally hire guns for the day so no need for own certs & guns.

I'd definitely be up for that. Used to shoot .22s at school (many) years ago. Wouldn't mind revisiting.I don't touch shotguns since I blew a hole in the ground 3 inches in front of my foot (broke the gun with my finger still inside the trigger guard )
