thank goodness they are all ok.....

A couple of the jigsaw guys live near me, bet they were busy!!

Well done to the rescuers - not the time of year to be ditching (as if there is a good time?!?!?!?!)

latest from beeb
"People on board the installation saw the incident unfold, and raised the alarm with the coastguard.

There were initial reports of lifejacket lights being seen in the water, and signals being picked up from personal locator beacons, which are attached to lifejackets.

Three flares were also reported to have been seen from the platform, and parts of helicopter fuselage were seen on the surface.

Four helicopters, including three in-field aircraft and a Sea King from RAF Lossiemouth, took part in the rescue.

A Nimrod from RAF Kinloss was also scrambled.

NHS Grampian said A&E staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary were now on full alert and they were expecting 18 patients"

Sounds like it might have hit hard
hope no one hurt seriously

Glad all seem fine. No doubt more details will follow, but a good job done by all especially as it would have been pitch black.

Hi ,

on Etap just now , the guys where woken by the pilot just as it was a couple of miles out from Marnock

Told they where ditching and they did ,rotors where still turning when she hit the water , they where lucky that they all got it to the rafts and the chopper stayed up right

The weather closed in with bad fog hence to ages to locate them in the water even though they where only about 500m of the platform

Think it's crazy to have to be in the water from about 6.30 till 8.30 /9 before you get pulled out . Not sure i have much faith in the Jigsaw thing

glad everyone made it out, but 2 hours is pretty poor imho. Guaranteed the searchers were doing their upmost the setup i am in agreement jigsaw always seemed like a cost cutting measure too far for me.

Well since you have the GA 1 on top of the Mungo just now drilling , doing infill wells and has been in the field work about a year it seems mental not to have a standyby boat close by .

Trying to save a few quid and it could have been a very different outcome for the 18 onboard

yeah according to the reports it seems to have been a fair bit of time before they were located, I realise it was foggy but thought the guys were wearing Locators so would have thought they would have been found a bit earlier.

Must admit i wasnt convinced by the whole Jigsaw concept, always seems a great reassurance to see the standby boat bobbing around nearby.

Can anyone explain what the jigsaw concept is?

Basically BP decided to do away with having dedicated standby vessels and go to having some winch equipped helicopters and platform launched Fast rescue Craft

bit more info on it there

Not a good idea IMO.

With a dedicated standby vessel, it's quite feasible that all crew could have been rescued far quicker.

I was at BP for an interview today and whilst they're all patting their respective backs on a job well done, one did get the impression that there was a big sigh of relief behind closed doors. If it had gone bad, it would be very bad.

Well the jigsaw says it will get there and get you out in 2 hours - they did in two bang on in pretty good conidtions - ie low sea state

If it was december swell christ knows - the oim on here got questioned on the response time as well - he looked uncomfortable and stuck to the company line but there will be a lot of questions behind closed doors on the real world time

Ah ok, thanks. I guess the Jigsaw system is better if the incident happens further from the rig. Surely a chopper can get there much quicker than a vessel which will do 20 knots MAX.

I think its statistically more likely for a helicopter to have issues on landing or takeoff.

Reports came in last night in our meeting that they are planning on sinking the chopper and raising it at a later date.

Mind you it might have already headed underwater anyway.
