Any advice from Edinburgh folks regarding a place to eat near Murrayfield would be appreciated.

Plan is to drive from Aberdeen, arrive around 12.30/13.00 park the car, go for lunch, then to Murrayfield for the Italy game, then a couple of drinks and drive home - I will do the drinking, Mrs Tosser will do the driving.

I thought of the Holiday Inn beside the zoo, we could get parked there, but is it a walkable distance, around a mile would be OK, but I don't want to walk much more than that.

Any other suggestions of where to park and where to eat ?

Anything near Murrayfield is going to be very full on a match day, you may have
to head away from the ground a fair bit. What we've done in the past is join the
Murrayfield Sporting club for the day, it's (Was?, haven't been for a couple of years)
next door to the ground and you can go straight from ground to bar in 2 minutes, only
sandwiches though.

I've no idea what the Holiday Inn by the zoo is like eatery wise, but Murrayfield isn't too far a walk from there.

Now it used to be that the members house in Edinburgh Zoo was the least well known best place to eat, even less well known was the fact that you didnt need to be a member to have lunch there. Always busy on match days though and needs to be booked well in advance. You take your car into the zoo and park outside the Members house, so if you have the time you can look round the zoo as well. It went downhill for a while but I'm told its on the up again.

There is The Chinese Manor House at The Drum Brae Roundabout in Corstorphine, Tracy the original owner sold it about a year ago and the standard is not quite as high as it was then, but still 'a good chinese'. Then there is Fabio's Italian Restaurant again near the Drumbrae Roundabout but on the Glasgow Road near the Shell petrol station. Again not the best in town but not bad either. You could also try the Norton House Hotel opposite Ingliston.

As others have said all will be busy, since the borders rugby fans tend to invade for the day as well.

Vette, all those eateries, except the norton Hotel, are on the Corstorphine road, but as you point out, will be mobbed ... which is why there are no good rstaurants in that district.
I was just trying to be constructive, I know the best eateries are in town but thats not what CP asked was it?

Parking is difficult since the polis cone off all street parking places nearby. You could try the park and ride out at the airport, the bus in passes Murreyfield, its possibly limited stop (being local I dont use it myself)but should get you to Murreyfield/Roseburn fairly quickly.

Murray - I thoroughly recommend The Restaurant in Roseburn - VERY close to Murrayfield. Only problem is the owner (Graeme) sometimes sells the whole restaurant for rugby days so don't know if you'd get in - very good food, excellent risotto, stir fries and his scallops and black pud are awesome!!

Murray,

I remember an outing a few years ago when S7 took us down. We had lunch in Bar Roma and walked to the ground stopping in a hotel for a beer on the way. As I recall, some of the walk was along side the Water of Leith (?).

Were you not there? I remember Sappo being part of the group.

Cheers,

Eric smile

More or less IN town, but the walk isn't that horrendous (although longer than you wanted) - the Indian Cavalry Club near Atholl Crescent.

Oh and what my old man's doing for the Wales game tomorrow is training it in from Glasgow rather than trying to find anywhere close to park to Murrayfield.

yes

If you want a great curry, Ignite on Morrison Street is brilliant. It finally tempted me away from the Guru at Fountainbridge. smile

As Kiltie said, if you park and dine in Stockbridge, you can walk up the Water of Leith to Roseburn, it will take you 30 mins or so but a pleasant walk.

The pub opposite and slightly left of the Zoo is friendly and does good (pub) food, can't remember the name but never had a bad meal there...

Blast you're right - the website says 'moved on to other ventures'. I sincerely hope he means that in the best way - a nice guy and excellent food. We ate there regularly when we stayed down south and still went there when we were down - now I have to find somewhere else!

Cale Sample Rooms on Angle Park Terrace. Decent grub, and reasonable amount of parking nearby.
About a 10 minute walk to the ground, but easier to get in and out of town rather than the Costorphine gangfvck.

Verandah up at Haymarket is good for a curry, as is the Chang Mai Thai gaff. Could probably park at the Morrison St car park but that'll cost you.

Plenty decent places on Dalry Rd too.
La partenope, First Coast etc.

I'm sure the man from LA will have more up to date info than me though. I only live round here. biggrin

Best avoiding anywhere on the direct route from Waverly to the ground, as every out of towner will be diving in.
Room in the West End at Teuchters is good, or the Howies on Melville Street if you're fancying a walk.
Parking round there won't be easy though.
