Mayday. (m'aidez: help me)

So I've done google and found 39,400 results.

What I need is some recommendations of places selling highland dress, preferably in Edinburgh. I'm looking to make a quick trip up there in the next month in order to acquire a dress outfit for a summer wedding.

Hi

Not got any advice for Edinburgh in particular - sorry. But if you can travel up the coast beyond Edinburgh and reach St Andrews then there's a great kilt shop on Market Street, opposite Tesco in the middle of town. I got a new made-to-measure jacket there and it's superb. I'd completely recommend them.

St Andrews is about 1 hour north of Edinburgh by road or train and the shop is called:

Kirk Wynd Highland House (St. Andrews)

149a, Market St, St. Andrews, Fife KY16 9PF
Tel: 01334 473268

They also do kilt hire if you decide not to buy. They actually have 2 shops in town (just in case you google them and get confused by the results) but it's the Market Street store that I've dealt with in the past.

Obviously, you'll need to allow a good period of time between ordering and getting the kilt delivered. You'll probably need to have at least one fitting session for adjustments but preferably you'll have 2 or 3 sessions.

Good luck!

I like the store at the end of the Royal Mile - the only shop I have seen with real kilts and competent staff.

Would you considering hiring an outfit? I use www.hire-society.com - excellent service, delivery up to a week before your event and collection afterwards included in the price.

Try Clan Albanach in South Queensferry, owners family have been making highland dress for years. Be sure and ask if he has any second hand stuff in stock that may suit. We (family) had all our kilts made there and I bagged a stunning Prince Charlie jacket and waistcoat tailor made for a guy who wore it once before he took up weight lifting at a quarter of the price.

Kirk Wynd in St A's is where I got mine, although they also have a place in Kirk Wynd in Kirkcaldy that's nearer Edinburgh. wink

Place on Haymarket Terrace is always friendly and helpful, altho mebbes busy this weekend being the opening weekend of the 6N.

Allow at least 3 months if you're getting on made to measure.

Geoffrey Tailor? There's a couple there. I used them for my kilt last year - not cheap, but as you say, good service.
