I'm not really that much of a ball-sports fan, don't watch much rugby or football, so I'm not clued up much on what pubs are decent to watch rubgy in Glasgow. I'm looking for recommendations for a good pub in Glasgow city centre for watching the 6 Nations games in.

I'm organising a mate's stag do, one part being meeting up to watch the final Scotland game on 21st March in a pub in Glasgow. Both dads are attending too, so I'm really looking for somewhere that:

a) we'll definately get seats (don't mind arriving early as long as we can see a screen from being seated)

b) has a big screen (to cater for poor eyesight laugh)

c) serves food (to line the stomachs for the night ahead... drink)

Cheers
Ally

Walkabout is quite good.

Aye, facilities wise, Walkabout is your best bet. They're quite rugby orientated due to all the Auzzies that go there. No seriously.

Foods pretty good, plenty screens and plenty seats.

Wouldn't stay there post rugby though, it gets a bit cheesy and naff and not really Stag Do worthy at all.

Only other option would be sports bar but the beer is watered down crap.

OlberJ - do you mean the Sports Cafe on Sauchiehall St? Don't worry, I've been there once and would never go back even if it was the last place in Glasgow serving alcohol. Truely horrendous place, even if you ask for a bottle of beer they pour it into a plastic glass before you can have it. Classy. Bizarrely, one of my mates loves the place...

Walkabout sounds appealing. I think I might have been there once but my memory's a bit hazy of that night. I seem to remember almost peeing in a big sink in the middle of the toilets thinking it was a urinal? paperbag (or am I thinking of somewhere else?!).

My other thought was O'Neills on Queen St but I reckon that might be busy for rugby?

Initial plan is definately moving on after the rugby, either to eat elsewhere or after eating there. Got plans for the rest of the night (no strip club permitted I've been told though frown)

7th heaven is good for strippers if you persaude them otherwise wink
walkabout is awful, it smells all the time and is a magnet for neds, later on in the evenings there's usually trouble.
The bar you want is O'niels in the merchant city Its massive, has loads of seats if you get there early enough and is part of this;

in the candleriggs area I think its called, which has various eateries and bars around a central covered square which is kind of like being abroad and is much much nicer than walkabout yes

Merchant Square is a good shout (and is on my street so have been a fair bit) but if you didnt mind going to the West End Cottiers is a very good shout - good food, big screens, and nae bams guaranteed. Its a converted church and has nice character.

I go out in the west end as much as city centre, a black cab from Highburgh Road to the city centre shouldnt be much more than £6. Also will make it feel like a bit more of a day out if you go to different areas, unless sitting in the one place is what you are after.

To be honest, the city centre is awesome at night but a lot of guff during the day for boozing.

Agreed Merchant Square and O Neils is a good bet.

Jkelly, I also live on that street, just moved up from Newcatle. Havent got the Exige up at the moment but we should try to meet up when the weather improves.

Damn, I totally forgot about Merchants Square area - right, that's it sorted! I've got a mate who lives nearby and always mentions it but I've yet to head along to the place yet. If it's got a mix of eateries and the O'Neills in there then that's perfect.

Cheers smile

I'm planning a night out with the missus a week on Saturday to check out the Merchant Square area. Leaving the car well at home for that though smile
