On my drive between Aberdeen and London I pass a funny, tall, silver funnel type thing on the motorway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Does anyone know what it is please? I'm intrigued!

ETA O/H describes it as a giant gramaphone horn, it's very tall and always catches my eye. I've tried Googling it but to no avail.....

Eh-oh.

I go along that bit of motorway a lot, and thought it was just a sculpture like the pyramids, the red heads and the wire horse. One day I was sitting in a queue going past there (because of roadworks I think) and the damn thing was playing music...

its part of a series of "art" sculptures along the m8. Theres 3 grass pyramids at livingston, the horn, 3 heads made of tubes ontop of containers turned on theor ends all painted red at the eurocentral and finally a horse made of wire oppositte glasgow fort shopping centre.

Art? That explains that then.
I have seen the coloured sheep on the Pyramid hills before and was aware they were an art installation but had no idea about the funny silver thing.
On the drive down yesterday I was discussing it with O/H and he suggested I posted on the Scottish section of P/H - thank you all for your rapid replies.thumbup

It's a speaker to warn the Aberdonians off the spangly coloured sheep they keep eyeing up.

The 'Sawtooth Ramps', which quickly became known as the pyramids, were the first to be installed in 1993 by artist Patricia Leighton.

They were followed by the 80 foot high 'Horn', which transmits recorded music, poetry and prose, the 'Big Heids' at Eurocentral Terminal site and the Iron Horse at Easterhouse.

Craig Chalmers, senior facilities manager at Pyramids Business Park, said: "We wanted to do something different to brighten up the area and make it a nicer place to work.

"The sheep have become a huge attraction. They look fantastic and they serve the double process of maintaining the grass on the pyramids.

"The dyes are obviously animal friendly and we are now considering replacing them with pink sheep when these ones have their coats sheared."
