Hi Guys,

Can anyone reccommend me a few good quality hotels for a weekend break in nice scenery in Scotland. Not the big chain types but the ones that are generally privatly owned (old House type)that are good quality but not cameron house, gleneagles type prices.

I have some friends coming over in the autumn from South Africa and it would be nice to go away and really show them scenery, food, accomadation and generally good scottish hospitality.

Preferably well out of the main city's and of the beaten track West coast and Highlands would be ideal.

You'll go a long way to beat this - not to mention all the scenery on the doorstep!

I recently took my misses here:

Michelin quality food and run by a South Africa bloke. It was recently refurbished to the highest standard and Pete goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable.

Worth the money and then some!! cheers

Ah, just back from Dalmunzie house hotel up near Glenshee. Been there for several years now especially at Hogmanay, but this year the food was fantastic, new chef will make sure they are once again in the awards this year. A 9 hole golf course, some trout fishing, wonderful walks, friendly staff and the best service, difficult to beat!

This place is nice and remote : http://www.eriska-hotel.co.uk/
Also has the attraction of inviting a family of Badgers into the Bar every night for their Dinner.

I'll back up Kildrummy. I've been there twice and it has a really old world special feel to it. Quite good value & great food, but quite formal.

Try this - hopefully it will help.

Another vote for the Torridon from me, and Bunchrew in Inverness is very nice.

And if you need to hire a car, look no further.....

Wasn't over impressed by Kildrummy when we were there in July. Loch Torridon good, as is Cromlix - no-one's mentioned Kinnaird near Pitlochry - now that I do rate for food, ambience and service. http://www.kinnairdestate.com/
