Can anyone suggest a good restaurant in Edinburgh for next Saturday? Tried Oloroso couple of weeks back, superb, no complaints so may use that as a backstop. What about The Witchery, is it over-rated?

I've heard that The Witchery is excellent. Im sure others will confirm. However, I think it's not cheap? It depends what you really want to eat / spend.

I myself, highly recommend Khushi's. It's great food, service is excellent, not expensive and also bring your own alcohol. It's located on Victora Street.

The Scotsman brasserie is very nice, just been refurbed and the food has always been good anytime I've been there.
Time for Thai is superb too if you like a bit of spice.
My favourite for great buzz and great food would be the Outsider, cracking place!
Hope that helps

Time 4 Thia on North Castle Street is excellent, The Witchery is good but expensive and tables are very close together and to get a decent table you need to book so far in advance. Another excellent one is the Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street, the restaurant used to be members only but now I believe its open to all, stunning food with the option of retiring to the bar after and falling into some of the best Malt Whisky's to be bottled.

I keep meaning to find out - does Kushi's have a licence or is it only BYOB?

Good call on the whiskey society Vette, great food!

One point I'd make on Time For Thai is that although it is superb they suffered a flood a couple of months back, the last time I was there they were still having some work done within the building.

Not been to the latest incarnation but every previous one has been BYOB only, with jugs to fetch beer from the pub next door.

Can't say I've rated it since they left Drummond Street. I miss the lemon pickle... frown

Why is it BYOB. Cost to much for a licence?

Blonde is another good one, especially in winter - delicious and sustaining Northern European food.

Khushi's

hmm,
mixed review here for it.
first time i went it was really good, couldnt complain at all.
second time we went we were 5 minutes late for a reservation and they wouldnt let us in or refund our deposit. ended up fighting with door staff and managers.
utter wkers.

prefer the bombay bicycle, better food and better service, bit further out of town though

I was in Time 4 Thai on Friday evening and no sign of building work, and the food lick

Thanks guys. The Whisky Society sounds great especially with the opportunity to sample some fine malts. Read a report about Fishers, all good, not everyone in party enjoys fish though. Tried to book Martin Wishart's in Leith but no joy although mixed reviews.

So will try to book Whisky Society first then Scotsman Brasserie thereafter.

Cheers
