Out here in the shire there is no light polution, and yesterday about 5.30 in the evening, I saw two lights move across the sky in a south east direction. Now your all going to say it was just two planes.

We see planes regularly, comercial flights, jets and helicopters, most have flashing coloured lights or becons, and are generally recognizable.

What I saw was two white lights high up move across the sky keeping a set distance apart, If they had not been moving they would have looked just like two stars. There is no houses or trees to block our view,so you can see a hell of a lot of sky. They traveled silently about three quarters distance across the sky, then just disapeared. Total time of viewing was about a minuite and a half.

I'm not going loopy, the wife saw them as well.

Any other feasable explenations??? Or should I just go off into a corner and listen to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

Ian.........

There seems to be a lot of strange goings on in the shire. Last year i was driving past black dog towards Aberdeen and this white thing went flying over me VERY quickly in the direction of Bridge of Don. No idea what it was but i did wonder . . .

I think those paper baloons have a lot to answer for. You know the type that you light and let go and they float away whilst glowing.

Any idea when we can expect to see the Northern lights or have we missed that?

We regularly see satellites here... which do indeed look like stars moving across the sky.

Your description would tend to tie up with that of an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO for short). You should contact the P&J, you may get a front page feature and keep that nutter Deborah Storr off it. You might get a talking part on one of these nurdy documentories on channel 4. Had you drank much prior to this sighting, a couple of glasses of red wine or half a dozen pints does tend to increase awareness of the supernatural. Fame beckons, dont ignore it.

Belive me, you were looking at satellites - look up again tonight (if it's as clear there as it is here) - you'll see plenty provided the sun is in the right place.

GetCarter is likely to be correct; you really can see satellites if the sky is clear enough. And, if they move into the shadow of the planet, they will seem to 'disappear'.

ETA- 'falling stars' can look the same.

Agree with the above.

Satellites are easy to spot and track in a clear sky with no light pollution.

Although saying that I've never seen 2 together ...

Yesterday the space shuttle undocked from international space station in preparation for return to Earth. At same time, ISS was visible from Aberdeen, check NASA's website here http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cit....
Suspect you saw both shuttle and ISS. If I had known what was going on up there I would certainly have been looking out for it - need to check that NASA site out more often.
Serious space stuff still going on but unfortunately none of us really take much notice any more.

I love looking for satellites in the night sky. Amazing the way they seem to blink on and off, which is apparently their solar cells reflecting the sunlight as they spin.

Take a look here for realtime Sat tracking...it could prove one theory, or open a can of worms!

I saw the same two objects and can confirm that it was the IIS and the Shuttle . I knew it was going to happen and looked out for it. Quite an amazing sight.

www.heavens-above.com will tell you when and where to look for these events.
