There was a thread on here recently with the top resteraunts in Aberdeen. Some may be too expensive as the OP was looking for 5* dining but it might give you some idea's. We're off to "No. 1 resteraunt" at Queens road for our Christmas doo this year. Never been so it could be a total let down but they do have a whisky bar biggrin

For God's sake do not take them to No. 1.

You'll be waiting all night for some service.

There is no good fine dining in Aberdeen.

Marcliffe - Good steaks - dinner for 2, 3 courses, wine and port. around £200

Number one - Poor food, strange combinations that don't work. OK wine list, no vintage port ~£75 a head

Stage Door - Not bad, but don't change their menu enough. OK wine list. Steak not very good.

The Forum - Not worth teh effort. Cheap food and cheap wine.

Fusion - Small menu, good wine, great food, lovely atmosphere. (I'd go here)

Ciao Napoli - If you like Italian food, this is the best in Aberdeen

Silver Darling - Very overated, you are paying for the name

Did the Atholl not have a inspection in the last year which found the kitchen to be well below par? I remember reading something a while back.

Last time we were in La Lombarda's (about 4 years ago) we sent the Bolognese back, as it tasted like microwave food.

Just booked to SWMBO there, so here's hoping you're right!!
Last time we were there, dinner for 4, of which 1 was a vegetarian. She enjoyef her food, as did we. Couple of bottles of wine, vintage port with the cheese, lovely meal altogether.

I'd happily go back again.

I'd only heard good things when we booked for a table of six, mates wife siad she'd heard about the lack of service, and she wasn't wrong.

Only 4 of the 6 starters appeared, waited about 7 minutes for the others, same with main course, coupled with the poor wine list, wasn't best pleased.

When my parnter enquired about what kind of port they had, she was replied to in quite a disrepectful manner, that they had some red stuff, when asked about what kind of 'red stuff' i.e. vintage, he replied "Cockburns". He also mispronounced it. Cock.

If you are willing to head out of town.

Try the Fjord Inn in Fisherford, the owner used to be the head chief at the Marcliffe. The Food is superb. As long as you don't mind the 70's decor. I'm just a mile down the road, It's allways full at the weekends. So book in advance..

Problem was with outside supplier but they got the boot. Because of this they refurbed the whole kitchen it is now lovely.

There appears to be a pattern emerging here about bad food and service. Why don't you stay in and cook yourself.

I'll second that - looks crap from the outside (and the inside too!) but the food is excellent.

I'm pretty local too - between Insch and Kennethmont

Agreed on no.1 - pretentious and low quality

Marcliffe is good.

Prime Cuts is good although the menu's limited if you're not into Steak or Lobster (who isn't? my wife apparently).

Silver darling - tend to agree with above, food is OK but Moonfish/Bistro Verde/Creel Inn/that place at Stonehaven on the harbour are all better.

Fusion - disappointed with the service on my one visit. Food was good though.

Ciao Napoli - excellent food, service and wine but the seats are hard as nails!

Forum - looks nice but a bit generic. Trying too hard to be minimalist and cool. Food below standard but at least it's cheap.

Had a decent meal at Simpsons recently although the atnmiosphere is a bit crap and it's often full of old people.

Ate at the Olive Tree recently too and it was excellent.

Sorry but I'd have to disagree with you about the Atholl. I worked there when I was a student (late nineties) and it wasn't great then but it's gone downhill a lot. Crap fiood, crap service, full of rich old c u n t s who think they're the classiest people on earth. Mistakenly.
