Ian Donaldson article in Sunday Mail
Discussion
Interesting article in the Sunday Mail today about SMRC Racer Ian Donaldson...
Sounds more like sour grapes and jealousy that someone has went to the papers with the guys history (which I never knew about).
Very one sided article, claiming his "£150k Lamborghini" is being beat by "Focuses, Hondas and £22k Caterham kit cars"
It doesn't mention that the Focus isn't any ordinary Focus!

Sour grapes indeed. Certainly seem to be well informed. Sounds more like sour grapes and jealousy that someone has went to the papers with the guys history (which I never knew about).

"On the day Andrew was jailed, a shooting took place at a chip shop in Falkirk. Three McPhees were charged but the case was dropped."
I remember that. Happened in Camelon near Falkirk.
TBH whoever wrote this article should be one of the top editors for one of the major tabloids as it's so full of st the red tops would print it in a second.
And does anyone else think that some of the phrases used in the article sound familar?
"Would-be race ace Ian Donaldson, 29, pits his orange Lamborghini Gallardo against souped-up Fords and Hondas."
Souped up? That a filter and exhaust and some Optimax? And why emphasise Honda?
"But he still trails in the Scottish Motor Racing Club rankings and was left red-faced when YouTube featured one of his spectacular crashes."
Red faced? Perhaps he thought it was actually quite memorable and was ok with it. Did they ask him whether he was red faced? Doubt it.
"A Lamborghini should easily beat these other cars by a mile but Donaldson isn't a great driver."
bks, simple as that.
"He's got deep pockets while others are hobbyists on a shoestring budget."
Shoestring? That rings a bell from Piston Heads. Hmmm........
"We watched him take part in two races, finishing fifth and sixth.
In both, three Ford Focuses finished in front. He is fourth in the drivers' rankings behind a Honda, a £22,000 Caterham kit car and a Ford Focus."
They say Ford Focus like it just came from a car rental at the Airport. Do they have any idea what's been done to improve them? Perhaps not.
"Race fans often mock his poor driving and wealth in online chatrooms."
Who does? What "chatroom" or perhaps you mean forum. Very vague.
"One said: "There's no merit in beating cars and drivers who have a limited budget. Why doesn't he fight it out with the big boys down south as the Porsche drivers do?"
The most important point from that quote is "One said". Only one person and they wouldn't reveal their identity. The big boys down south? Heard that somewhere on here before as well.......
"'People are wary of Donaldson and his crew'
- Racing source "
Well perhaps if you didn't spread st around forums and give information to one sided journalists then you wouldn't have to look over your shoulder.

You can get a donaldson team t-shirt if you look hard enough, one to match over your AG baseball capI remember that. Happened in Camelon near Falkirk.

Yeah I popped down for a couple of hours, weather was amazing...for a change!you at kh today col?
As for the Mail article,I wondered when this would surface but what a load of garbage. Ok it sounds like Mr D has an er....interesting background but the comments about his driving and the other cars he races against is complete bks.
I spoke to some of the instructors yesterday at Knockhill who have sat beside Ian Donaldson and they have nothing but praise for his driving skills. Funny how there's plenty quotes from this forum in the article though
We were approached by the Daily Record recently asking if we could supply a head shot of Ian, told them to bugger off.
There's not much more to say really, I just hope he appears next season with something equally or even more bonkers to race.

That wasn't really the point of my post. I don't personally know either person nor am I ever likely to. So groupie clothing isn't really required.
My point was that the article was inaccurate and is just a cloak and dagger opportunity for someone who's a bit green with envy
