Was disappointed to find that the noise police had finally arrived at Kh last week. It was onlt "spped sunday" which was not as good as I had hoped, but even though I had run the car in its rather loud status many times previously, and there were no references to car noise levels on the Kh site, I was told that I was too loud and had to leave. frown I know it's stupidly loud but was so disappointed to find out that Kh has to give in to pressure from the densely packed local population. Off with the homemade pipes and on with the silencers. furious

So what is the limit then?

Gentlemen and any gentlewomen that might be looking, your comments about the noise of the car, which was intentionally loud, are hugely appreciated, and made most of the Kh staff smile as well, but they unfortunately have to bow to PC pressure. I should have taken my silencers with me, and will do in future, just a shame that the UK's last unmonitored circuit is now monitored. As to what the limit is, perhaps better not to ask, just don't do what I did and make your car excessively loud.

You sure it wasn't a one off tim? I mean there isnt exactly much housing close to kh?

Although i guess that sort of explains the lack of trackdays they seem to have planned for the rest of the year.

edit: seems to be 105

that's crap. Can't believe they've started enforcing this. As said, yours is a cracking sounding car and there's diddly squat in the way of local residents!

Sheet. Missed most of this year when the motor lunched itself earlier in the year frown Just picked up the new engine yesterday...plus a whole load of stainless bends for the new bigger-bore less-silenced 'zorst. Plan for the weekend (and next) was to drop the motor back in and weld up a 'better sounding' exhaust. May have to revert to plan B...whatever that is.

Any idea what the sound level you had was? And did you have any silencing in place or just straight through? Do you know where they measured the noise from? If they measure from the inside of the circuit I guess I'm a happy bunny as my pipes exit left....but I presume they're measuring from the outside frown

Did you get the chance to continue but drive at lower revs?

"We have a noise limit of 105db(A). The noise reading is measured statically at 0.5 metres at 3/4 revs."

I didn't think Knockhill had any noise problems until recently when I was talking to one of the circuit staff.

Apparently they have had complaints from residents of Dunfermline before and other people who live there have verified that they can hear cars at the circuit.

For me it isn't much of a hassle to put the standard silencers back on, which were measured at 100db at the ring, just seems such a shame to have to give into each and every bit of legislation. I wonder if it was my car that could be heard so far away? Maybe I've only got myself to blame......still hate the nanny state though.

Ironically we were just discussing this on Scottish Elises, sadly it was only a matter of time before some Nimby objected to fun taking place within a few miles of them.
I wonder who the complainees are? Money says incomers to the area.

What what what???

This is nuts! Even worse than the nimbys who move in next to an active airfield and then complain about a few cars running around.

Some people car hear it in Dunfirmline? On a super-quiet day with the wind blowing in the right direction, if they've got really good hearing and crane their necks in the right direction - hardly constitutes a noise nuisance.

Makes me glad I shelled out for the swappable pipes for the Cerb, but very sad to think that it'll never be heard at proper full chat on a circuit againfrown

Maybe Kh was on a higher state of alert due to the large number of very loud "smaller" cars with large exhausts! The noise levels have never been mentioned at previous HM/SIDC/Trackscotland nights, so maybe on a less public evening we will escape censure. I have my doubts as it will only get worse as time goes by. As I suspect my car was the worst offender for noise, it would be sensible for me to be quieter and hopefully no-one else gets any grief, lets see what develops, at least I know I can pass 105 easily with the standard silencers and the meter close to the car.

If I'm honet, I'm a wee bit jealous, as I'm used to being the noisiest car at any given event!

I'll make sure I take my silencers for the next event too. If there's any sign of trouble I'll bang them on premptively.

Are you heading up the the TS event on the 1st November?

maybe we should compete to see who can be quietest..... vomit
and as for 1st nov, depends on the weather, maybe better if the rain is on as it quietens all things including my right foot!

I'm apparently not meant to rev mine over 7k with the silencers on, but I doubt that'll be much of an issue if its wet (which, let's face it, it will be).

I've not tested mine with a noise meter, but in theory, I should sneak under the 100db mark (doesn't sound like it, subjectively, though).

It wasn't mentioned what type of car it was, but I presume it was one of the British GT cars testing that people could hear in Dunfermline.
