Anyone know if these are switched on yet?

They are on yellow poles, about 35 miles south of Glasgow.

I had a lapse of concentration while on a long distance run at the weekend and i'm not sure what speed i flew through them.

Any responses appreciated.
Thanks

Brendan :]

going by the following - http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/installations.htm

It would appear that they are not live yet. However, they might be lazy sod's and have not updated their website yet.

Hope this helps.

I went through them at warp somethingorother a week past Friday at 1.00 in the morning.

I for one certainly hope they're not live yet, but suspect that if they were, we'd be notified by appropriate signage.

Wonder if any of the authorities will use this vastly expensive complex number plate recognition software and harware to identify stolen cars and notify the police to go stop them?? Mind you they would catch real criminals and that would take up lots of time and not generate any fines for the local police to keep so it wouldnt be ecomonical would it?? Well compared to criminals driving at 78mph on motorways for over a quarter mile!! I hope they catch lots and lots of such criminals and they then stop voting for the sanctimonious morons who put this 'selective' crime stuff in place! Especialy as the M74 is sucha major dangerous road nowadays as compared to the old 74 which i used to drive a lot years ago!
When do we start writing to our MP's and MSP's about this crap rather than moan on here!
I for one am!

They've been using the cameras to recognise registration plates for years on the Kincardine Bridge and Forth Road Bridge.

Automatically flags up any registrations linked to no road tax, no insurance, stolen motor etc.

Luckily they haven't implemented average speed cameras though! I hate those things.

Thought you needed areason for them?

Where exactly on M74? 35 miles south of Glasgow is in middle of nowhere (Abington?) unless you mean M77

I go through the A77 ones everyday. Rumour is that out of the seven or so sets only one is ever live. I don't take my chances!

the ball ache part is the 50mph limit which was imposed after a traffic cop was killed on that stretch doing over 100mph.

That bit is now a real nightmare. Overkill in my opinion.

Cars doing 50mph in the inside lane and cars doing 51mph in the "fast" lane

Hi folks, thanks for all the replies..

ASBO - Yours makes me feel better

S2 - I think its just North of Abington, i travel the road every weekend to Liverpool, but i'm unsure exactly of their location, it's either very late at night, or very early in the morning - As you know it's pretty bleak scenery at the best of times.

I'm sure its the M74 or something.

Thanks again boys, and any more info about them - just whack it in here, i'm sure it will be a good reference for others too.

All the best,
Brendan :]

Yes these are on now !

"A SPECS average speed camera system will be operating in the interests of road safety at a set of major roadworks on the southbound carriageway of the M74 near junction 11.

There will be a reduced speed limit of 50mph through the roadworks from 1 October until the end of the project in earlty December 2008"

I now avoid this area when I can and use A70 rather than cutting off at A71 - no cameras at all on that road !!

BTW watch out for Silver BMW 5 Series 05 Plate - unmarked, no badges but has two occupents who you won't want to be on your tail !!

There is a great B road that runs parallel to this part of the Mway.
Much more satisfying.

Hi there - where did you get that info from if I may ask?? When I went through it (30th) there were no reduced speed limits etc. So hopefully I missed them by a day!!

I went through some of those on gantries and Northbound last week at 70'ish, as I'd just joined the motorway from the services and got a bit of a shock when I saw them.

There were no roadworks going on and no one else had slowed, so I just assumed that 70 was the limit.

I've been watching for that little letter ever since....

There are two cameras on each gantry, but facing in opposite directions - so I assume they're set up to monitor a contraflow when resurfacing starts on that section. I havn't been near them recently, but I think the work started yesterday.

At least they're only temporary! They had GATSOs in place when the opposite carriageway was being worked on a few months back, and they had SPECS during the works near Hamilton a few years ago - all gone now, thankfully.

Prefer the B7078 myself wink

Average speed cameras are on the A74/M74 (both sides) at Metal Bridge, North of Carlisle. They will remain there until the A/M74 is upgraded to 3 lanes. I think the work is scheduled to finish winter 2008
