Anybody else see the plane going into Edinburgh Airport around 10.30ish this morning that took a rather unusual approach in? Was working on my car outside when I was aware of jet engines powering right up, look up and see one of the 4 engine jets that Air France tend to use banking right over the house with its wing tip pointing to the ground. It then rolled to the other side curving away towards Craigleith area, before arcing back again - wing tips pointing to the ground again over Pilton. All the while the engines seemed to be powered right up. Dissapeared over the horizon out of sight looking like it was about to do a barrel roll. Had the neighbours run out of their house too wondering what was going on! Show off Pilot or something else????

Can't say I did. However, I work beside the Airport and have noticed that the planes seem to be coming over very low over the Gyle Shopping Centre.

My Mum has just described this very incident to me!

She (in her intimate knowledge of things aviation related) reckoned it was a military aircraft.

They're currently resurfacing the main runway overnight. Hence some flights have been diverted over the city to use the crosswind runway instead. Perhaps that's what you saw?

I was at the Marine Hotel @ North Berwick around this time and heard a low flying "big" jet but could not see a thing, it then came back around and I caught a glimpse of it over the hotel roof in the direction of the sea and it was a very large grey plane, looked like one of those Russian super cargo jets. Did think it was a bit unusual, just assumed it was military heading for Leuchars.

Was playing golf down at Aberlady this morning and spotted large Airbus 330 and then RAF C17 heading over too, thought it was going to Leuchars though as its run in was a bid wide for Edinburgh.

Hope this helps.

The C-17 was doing a flypast of the Selex Galileo site to celebrate a delivery milestone.

i near st myself the other flying into EDI. I was on the ryanair flight home on Thursday evening and on the final approach where the plane shuts the thrust off a couple of seconds after the motorway to glide down, the pilot engaged full thrust and took off again...

turns out that a plane was sitting where we wanted to land! smile
